On August 19, the pro-Saudi wing of the Yemeni military announced that dozens of its fighters had been killed or wounded as a result of a series of ceasefire violations by the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

In a statement, the military said that the Houthis violated the UN-sponsored ceasefire 467 times between August 14 and 18, killing 13 of its fighters and wounding 27 others.

204 violations took place in the western province of al-Hodeida, 94 in the central province of Ma’rib, 85 in the southwestern province of Tazi, 51 in the northwestern province of Hajjah and 33 violations in the northern provinces of Saada, al-Dali and al-Jawf.

In addition to these claims, the Giants Brigades, which is backed by the United Arab Emiratis, shot down on August 19 a Qasef suicide drone of the Houthis over the district of Harib in Ma’rib. The Qasef, which has a range of 150 kilometers, is a copy of Iran’s Ababil-2.

The UN-sponsored ceasefire in Yemen entered into effect on April 2 and was set to end on June 2. Nevertheless, it was extended two times, first until August 2 and then until October 2.

The Houthis have been also reporting ceasefire violations by the Saudi-led coalition’s proxies. Despite this exchange of accusations, the ceasefire is still holding up. The UN is already working to improve the conditions of the ceasefire as well as to extend it beyond October 2.
