On January 7, the pro-Saudi wing of the Yemeni Armed Forces and the Giant Brigades, which are backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), made more gains in the province of Shabwah.
The Yemeni Armed Forces captured district center of Bayhan in the western part of Shabawah from the Houthis (Ansar Allah). Meanwhile, Giant Brigades fighters captured the area of al-Hanou and managed to reach the outskirts of the town of al-Ulya.
A day earlier, the Giant Brigades imposed fire control over the al-Sa’di junction, cutting the Houthis main supply line between Bayhan and the district of Harib in the neighboring province of Ma’rib.
The Yemeni Armed Forces and the Giant Brigades launched Operation Southern Storm to expel the Houthis from the Shabwah in the beginning of the year. The Saudi-led coalition has been backing the operation.

The operation in general is being led by the Giant Brigades, who withdrew all of their forces from the western Yemeni province of al-Hudaydah around two months ago.
Houthi forces in Shabwah appear to be collapsing. The group will likely lose its remaining positions in the province in the upcoming few days.
