Saudi-Backed Forces Removed Naval Mine Field Planted By Houthis Off Yemen's Western Coast (Video)

On June 8, Saudi-backed forces announced that they had removed a naval mine filed that was laid by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in the Red Sea.

The field, which was uncovered earlier this week, was located south of al-Hanish al-Kabir island, around 450 meters away from Yemen’s western coast.

Different types of naval mines were found in the field. The mines, which were submerged 16 meters under water level, were wired to the sea ground. Saudi-backed forces made immense effort to dismantle and remove the mines.

“The discovery of a field of Houthi naval mines laid at the bottom of the sea in al-Hanish archipelago indicates the presence of similar fields in sensitive marine areas across the Red Sea, surveys will be expanded to clear them,” head of National Resistance Operations, Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman al-Sami’I, said.

The Yemeni commander speculated that experts from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Lebanon’s Hezbollah had helped the Houthis lay the sophisticated mine field.

The Saudi-led coalition and its proxies made many landing attempts on Yemen’s western coast. This explains why the Houthis planted the naval mines in this area.

The Houthis have been developing, manufacturing and laying naval mines since the outbreak of the war in Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition claims that these mines pose a serious threat to maritime traffic in the Red Sea.

Usually they remove them by driving right into them.
