The Saudi-backed wing of the Yemeni Armed Forces announced on March 27 that it had shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Houthis over the district of Nihm in the central province of Sanaa.
“Air defense units in the 7th Military Region shot down a UAV of the Houthis while it was trying to monitor the positions and movements of the national army in Nihm,” the Yemeni Armed Forces said in an official press release, according to al-Arabiya.
A photo of the UAV’s wreckage indicate that it is of the Rasid type, that was presented by the Houthis around two years ago. According to the available information, Rasid has an operational range of up to 35km and can stay in the air for 2 straight hours.
The Rasid UAV is reportedly equipped with an optical system and a secured data-link. These equipment allow the UAV to conduct reconnaissance sorties and correct artillery fire.
Earlier this month, the Houthis announced that they had boosted the local production of several types of UAVs. The Yemeni rebel group even claimed that some of its UAVs are capable of reaching many targets within Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
F’king Saudi drone thieves. Give it back to the Houthis, or they’ll burn Aramco’s Ras Tanura Refinery Complex to the ground.
