Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out more than 50 airstrikes on forces of the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah between March 2 and 4.
The airstrikes likely hit the district of Harad, where the Houthis maintain a large force. According to the coalition’s claims, the airstrikes killed many Houthi fighters and destroyed 38 vehicles of the group. Moreover, a supply center of the group was reportedly destroyed.
Last month, Saudi-backed forces, led by the 5th Military District of the Yemeni Armed Forces, kicked off a large-scale attack on Houthi forces in Harad. However, the Houthis showed fierce resistance, preventing Saudi-backed forces from making any meaningful progress in the district.
Harad is located in the northern part of Hajjah, some 15 kilometers away from al-Tuwal border crossing with Saudi Arabia. The Houthis launched several attacks on the Saudi border line from the district in the past.
The recent airstrike on Hajjah indicate that the Saudi-led coalition may be planning to renew the attack on Houthi forces in Harad very soon.
The Houthis appears to be determined to hold onto Harad at any cost. The group’s recent successful defensive and offensive operations in the district suggest that a new attack by Saudi-backed forces will be a failure.
