On September 4, the Giants Brigades, one of the main Yemeni allies of the Saudi-led coalition, shot down a Rujum armed drone of the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in the western Yemen province of al-Hudaydah.
The drone was shot down while it was flying over positions of the Giants Brigades in the district of Hays in the southern countryside of al-Hudaydah. It was reportedly fully armed.
The Rujum drone was unveiled by the Houthis during the “Martyr Leader” military exhibition that was held last year. The drone is propelled by six electric engines and has a maximum operational range of ten kilometers.
The drone can carry up to 40 kilograms of munitions and equipment. Its typical armament consists of three 60 millimeter mortar rounds.
Earlier this week, the Houthis showcased a number of Rujum drones during a large-scale military parade that was held in the port city of al-Hudaydah.
The Houthis stepped up their drone attacks on Saudi-led coalition proxies after the start of the United Nation-sponsored ceasefire on April 2. Many of the recent attacks were reportedly carried out with Rujum drones. The ceasefire was set to end on June 2. However, it was extended two times, first until August 2 and then until October 2.
Both the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition have been exchanging ceasefire violations for a while now. However, neither of the two appears to be planning to the abandon the ceasefire. The UN is currently working to improve the conditions of the ceasefire as well as to extend it well beyond October.
