Saudi-led Coalition Says Debris From Successful Drone Interception Hit Southern Saudi City (Video)

Late on November 21, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had intercepted a suicide drone that attempted to attack Najran Domestic Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

In a statement shared by the Saudi Press Agency, the coalition said that debris from the successful interception fell over the residential district of al-Arisa in the nearby city of Najran.

Saudi activists shared footage of the interception. The suicided drone was likely shot down by a fighter jet of the Royal Saudi Air Force with an air-to-air missile.

The Saudi-led coalition claimed that the drone was launched by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) from the International Airport of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. The Yemeni group is yet to claim responsibility.

“Houthi violations damage the policy of restraint and the efforts for a political solution … Deterrence options are on the table,” the coalition’s statement reads.

Just a day earlier, the Houthis carried out a large-scale attack with 14 suicide drones at targets in western, central and southern Saudi Arabia. The attack was codenamed Operation Deterrent Balance 8.

It’s worth noting that the Houthis warned the Saudi-led coalition earlier this week that its intense airstrikes on Yemen will have “serious consequences”.
