The Saudi-led coalition announced on August 6 that its air-defense units had shot down a suicide drone of the Houthis that was heading to Saudi Arabia.

Col. Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the coalition, revealed that the drone was launched from the coastal Yemeni city of al-Hudaydah, which is controlled by the Houthis.

“The terrorist Houthi militia continues to violate the Stockholm Agreement and the ceasefire in al-Hudaydah and continues to launch hostilities and terrorist operations from the governorate of al-Hudaydah,” the spokesman said in an official statement.

The Saudi-led coalition didn’t provide any information on the type of the drone or reveal its designated target inside Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis’ are yet to comment on the Saudi-led coalition’s claims. Earlier this year, the group resumed its missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Last month, the Houthis launched a large attack with missiles and drones at air-defense systems, military airports and oil fields in different parts of Saudi Arabia. Back then, the coalition claimed that the attack was foiled.

The Saudi-led coalition improved its defenses and tactics over the last year. Nevertheless, the Houthis’ ever growing offensive capabilities are still a credible threat to Saudi Arabia and its allies.
