On October 5, warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition carried out a series of airstrikes on gatherings of the Houthis in the district of Khadir in the southwestern province of Taiz, according to the al-Arabiya TV. The UAE-based channel said that 30 Houthi fighters were killed as a result of the airstrikes.
“The militia [Houthis] received a painful blow at midnight yesterday, when several airstrikes targeted groups of its elements which were gathering at the top of a mountain in Beit Hameem that overlooks the highway between Shirijah and Rahda,” al-Arabiya quoted Captain Mohammed al-Naqib, a spokesman for Saudi-backed Yemeni forces, as saying.
Later, the Houthis announced that their fighters repelled an attack of the Saudi-led coalition and its Yemeni proxies on their positions in the district of Hayfan in Tazi. According to the al-Masirah TV, Houthi fighters killed several Saudi-backed Yemeni fighters and destroyed military equipment of the coalition during the clashes.
Taiz didn’t witness any real battles during the last two months, because the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition were focusing on the western Yemeni coast. However, the recent developments suggest that this situation may change soon.
