On January 3, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that its fighters had captured the villages of al-Mohamdiyah, al-Majid and Ard al-Zir on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River north of Hajin. SDF fighters killed 21 members of ISIS, according to the SDF media center.
The SDF started eliminating small pockets of ISIS fighters’ north of Hajin on January 2 and captured the villages of Abu Hardub and al-Rifai, according to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA). The SDF media center said that 17 ISIS fighters were killed and two armored vehicles of the terrorist group were destroyed by the SDF north of Hajin.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS fighters shelled the positions of the SDF in the villages of al-Bahrah and al-Kishkiyah north of Hajin with dozens of mortars.

The SDF will likely launch an attack to capture the remaining ISIS positions east and south of the terrorist group last stronghold in the Euphrates valley – Hajin – soon in order to isolate ISIS members inside the town.
