On March 12, ISIS Security Chief in the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor was killed by Asayish, the security agency of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In a statement, Asayish said that its special forces, known as HAT, located the terrorist after a successful raid on a meeting of ISIS commanders in southeastern Deir Ezzor.
The meeting was held in the village of al-Sabhah. Nine commanders of the terrorist group were apprehended in the course of the raid. Information obtained from them apparently helped to capture their top leader.
“Our special forces were able to locate the security Wali [chief] of Deir Ezzor in the town of Hagnah and raided his headquarters,” Asayish said in its statement. “The Wali and his companions, who were wearing explosive belts, were killed.”
During the raids in al-Sabhah and Hagnah, Asyish officers seized several weapons, explosive belts, large quantities of ammunition, and large sums of money.

ISIS cells in southeastern Deir Ezzor have been escalating their attacks on SDF personnel and civilians for a while now. A large-scale security operation carried out earlier this year failed to limit the terrorist group’s activities.
The elimination of ISIS Security Chief in Deir Ezzor is for sure a serious blow to ISIS. However, it will not likely influence the terrorist group’s daily operations in the region.
