The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have reopened the M4 highway after pushing Turkish forces away from it, the Kurdish group’s Coordination and Military Operations Center announced in the afternoon of October 12.
Militants of the National Syrian Army (NSA), backed by the Turkish military, were able to reach and block the highway after capturing eighteen villages in the northern parts of al-Hasakah and Raqqa in the early morning.
“SDF regain control over the international road M4, after clashes with Turkey-backed armed group, who infiltrated the area and killed some civilians,” the SDF’s Coordination and Military Operations Center wrote on Twitter.
The M4 is considered the spine of transportation in northeastern Syria. The highway links al-Hasakah with Raqqa and Aleppo.

The SDF’s claims on reopening the M4 are yet to be confirmed by any independent source. The Kurdish group has not released any photos or videos from the highway, so far.

The Kurds are in the same league as Saudis and all their claims should be taken with a bucket load of salt.
Holding the main improved roads is critical during the wetter Fall and Winter weather.
You wiil hear a lot more about the M4 arterial highway in the coming weeks because : : The current Limit of Advance (LOA) for the regular Turkish forces (TSK) is set at the M4 Highway running East-West from Manbij City to Qamishli. This includes the main SDF base at Ayn Issa, but Qamishli city district will remain Syrian. The plan is to repopulate areas vacated by Kurds with displaced and families of the 30 assorted jihadi groups forming the Turkish proxy Syrian National Army, (
exactly as in Afrin and northern Aleppo province. Rinse and repeat. Ignore US and NATO bluff and bluster, this is by agreement. Without US, French and British close air support the Kurds are finished
I suspect that’s when the jihadi mercenaries get paid. IF they get paid – might be paid in land. Hope they don’t have a long or happy life there.
Whatever happens, SDF would be wise to suck in invaders as deep as possible. It will spread the invaders, lengthen the supplylines , lengthen response times and give opportunities to counterattacks.
This push to highway M4 shows SDF is at a serious disadvantage in NE Syria. To much open terrain to defend, no major artillery, and Turks control the air. It’s just a matter of time, before they lose the entire northern corridor. But I hope they take out a lot of NSA trash first.
A Turkish alliance with the Syrian government coalition would speed things up considerably. With the Syrians advancing across the river and the Turks moving down to the M4. The SDF simply doesn’t have the manpower to fight a two front war effectively. And will be overrun in areas. Probably in front of the Syrian advance as they try to hold majority Kurdish population areas north of the M4 from the Turkish advance.

Without the CIA-civilian-contractors defending the Kurds, they fight just like their Israeli cousins. Most of the population on the eastern Euphrates are Arabs who are enslaved by the Kurdish-supremacist-bigots. Those Arabs are going to rise up now and fight against their oppressors. The Kurds cleanse the lands of most Christians during their genocide of Armenian-Christians. Now the Kurds are genociding the native Arab populations as well. Who lets them get away with all these genocides other then the U.S. and Israel?
