Following initial claims that Russian airstrikes hit the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Deir Ezzor on Monday, pro-SDF media outlets started spreading reports that government forces were shelling the SDF in the area with mortars and rockets (most ikely BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers).
According to a hard-core pro-Kurdish/US media outlet, Hawarnews, the mortar and rocket shelling started after alleged Russian airstrikes on SDF positions near the Koniku gas factory north of Deir Ezzor city.
The SDF seized the area on September 23 while ISIS was fiercely attacking the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies on the east bank of the Euphrates. It’s interseting to note that ISIS prefers to combat the SAA and just ignores a large part of the SDF advances in Deir Ezzor province.
If the reports about the Russian airstrikes and Syrian shelling are true, this is a clear signal that the Syrian-Iranian-Russian coalition is not going to ignore hostile actions of the US-led coalition and its allies against its forces in the province.
Earlier in September, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that a major part of ISIS attacks and shelling against government forces come from the area allegedly held by the SDF.
On Sunday, the ministry revealed photos showing the US Special Operations Forces safely operating in the ISIS-held area north of Deir Ezzor. At the same day, alleged ISIS shelling killed Russian Lieutenant General Valery Asapov near Deir Ezzor city. According to reports, Asapov was a commander of Russian task forces in Deir Ezzor and Raqqah provinces.

SDF has to pay price for being american proxy. As I wrote many time before, americans can’t be trusted. This is a nation with culture and history of betrayal and backstabbing or use nations as proxy for their own agenda
US will respond, SDF will respond.
US is likely either, or both, to supply SDF with aircover and or supply SDF with truckloads of manpads. As those are primarily defensive weapons, they fall within the purview of Centcom to supply to SDF without referring to either Pentagon of Trump.
SDF will fire in selfdefense. Russia’s choice to attack or not. The consequences of Russias decision are on the responsability of Russia.
Russia and SAA are, as stated earlier by me, in total panic over the successess of SDF, successess the SAA is unable to match. (assadophyles will undoubtedly say this is the fault of SDF, IS, US and everybody except for lousy fighting capabilities of badly trained NDF fighters.)

In case of close airsupport, manpads are very capable. To high flying bombers, accord. Present bombings were close air support and rather ineffective.
But think. In case Russia bombing SDF forces while formally there on Assads behalf, do not think this will make SDF give on inch to Assad, bombing his own – as he claims – beloved subjects.
Meanwhile, even if effective, SDF has already another route to the Omar fields by reaching (as they did) the Khabur river at Al Suhwar, from whre there are two perfect road going south towards the Omar (and other) oilfields while SDF will be takeing the largest agricultural complex of Syria, 1.6 million hectares of irrigated lands.
No they are not effective against the new gen protection even at close range, SDF have betrayed Assad and now are just another proxy of US, illegitimate group of land grabbers. If they choose to be “independent” at the referendum today, they ill have many problems with their neighbours, it will be just another half arsed failed state and US won’t save them.
