SDF Commander-in-Chief Says Group Has 110,000 Fighters, Calls For Semi-Merge With Syrian Army

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) should be a part of the Syrian defense system under the country’s constitution in the future, the Commander-in-Chief of the Kurdish-led group Ferhat Abdi Sahin said in a recent interview.

In the interview, which was released by Asharq al-Awsat on December 17, Sahin revealed that the SDF has today 80,000 fighters as well as 30,000 security personnel.

“We ask that these forces have a natural scope within the Syrian defense system, protect the areas it liberated in northeast Syria and that its personnel serve within that region and carry out their national duty within this region as one of the units of Syria’s army,” Sahin, who is known by his nom de guerre Mazloum Abdi, said.

The commander added that the group should stay in northeast Syria and keep its current command in a way that suits the overall structure of the Syrian military.

Last October, the SDF and the Damascus government reached a breakthrough agreement, allowing the deployment of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northeastern region. However, the agreement, which was a result of the Turkish-led attack on the region, didn’t settle the situation of the Kurdish-led group.

When asked about the possibility of a political agreement with Damascus, Sahin said that such an agreement would require “more time and longer talks.”

Russia was the broker and guarantor of the initial agreement between Damascus and the SDF. Now, Moscow is playing a positive role, pushing both sides towards a mutually-accepted agreement, according to Sahin.

110,000 fighters?!! LoooOOOooooL! More like 109,000 Kurds picking up a cheque with 1,000 hipsters on the front line who think they’re Rambo. YPG/PKK/SDF are US-backed terrorists & must disband NOW.

Jens Holm

Which part of mars are You from. The 110.000 are the brutto and not the fighting troops. It includes the mainly conscrited ones being second class.

Let me remind You, that Assads, Iranians as well as Erdogans mainly also are forced recruits with low education having a riffle, some morters and a michinegun here and there.

Its defence guard units mainly against Turks, where the real troops will come fast as reinforcement. Even they all should be PKK communist, they certainly are well motovated to fight against the Erdogan version of Turkey.

Your haha show ME stupidity and illitera non realisme well.

gustavo

Let us put this simple. 100,000 people paid with 100 USD a month (to say something), it makes 10 Million USD a month. I do not think Kurds (ex-USA-Israel puppets) have this amount of money to pay, and I do not think either USA is given this money to Kurds now. Syria oil smuggling between USA-Turkey benefits Turkey and USA operations in Syria, it is not to benefit Kurds.

Wayne Nicholson

PKK are communists. If they are on the US now it’s only a matter of time before they too become villains in the eye of the USA. I’m sure they know that too. They were only useful to the USA when there was a chance of “kurdistan” in Syria. That ship has sailed

Jens Holm

Tiny little world You have. Dwarfs and midgets probatly are smaller too.

The proposed defence is against Turks. Éven if those should be PKK and not YPG any other iddijot can see, they are very motivated against them.

Your version for the SDF wishes only show, You never has written anything about it at all. Typical ME no learner – not able to learn and probatly also not even allowed and raised as spendable sheep.

Wayne Nicholson

The PKK is the Kurdistan Workers Party.

The armed factions of the PKK are the “Peoples defence force” and the “Free Woman”s units”.

The SDF is an umbrella organization mainly made up of the People’s Defence Force and Free Woman’s Units with a few Arab Militias.

So the SDF is really the 2 armed PKK factions rebranded reinforced with a smattering of other groups.

The SDF’s leader is Mazloum Abdi, a high ranking PKK member who until he was leader of the SDF was considered a terrorist by the USA and was subject to arrest by the CIA if captured.

So tell me again about how “tiny’ my world is. These are the facts.

What I find amazing is how a simple name change can completely fool consumers of US MSM …. it’s like how in the comics no one can tell Clark Kent is superman because Clark Kent wears glasses.

And if you think the USA will tolerate Communists in power anywhere just look at Central America. The USA would use them to defeat Assad then hunt them down like dogs after the deed is done.

Jens Holm

bla bla bla.

The point is if those kurds will defend Syria with Assads or not. They will.

John Mason

Words of wisdom…..

Wayne Nicholson

No the point is sooner or later the USA will throw the PKK under the bus because they are communists and officially designated as terrorists by the USA.

The ‘Kurdistan’ that the USA is currently supporting includes oil rich portions of Iraq and Iran. There is no way in the world the USA will allow a big chunk of Middle East oil end up being controlled by communists.

Sure they’ll use them to topple Assad but once he’s out of the way the carpet gets pulled out from under them and the bus rolls over them.

King Cliff

I don’t believe Damascus would accept for the SDF fighters to stay in North Eastern Syria once they reconciled with the Syrian government. I believe the Syrian military will need the control and the ability to dispatch them where ever the commander of the military seek fit to do..

Concrete Mike

I agree, join the army, no pre conditions.

You cant have 2 different cadres in your army, thats asking for problems later, wich these sdf pricks will surely try something, as the anglo zio’s tentacles are all over them

Jens Holm

Thats not corrects at all. Many countries have. Russia has, USA has.

At the next miltary Nato initiative in Poland american Home Guards well armed too, will participate.

If You go the other way its of very big importance that Iraqi Kurdistan defend their part of the country as well as finance that local defence by 11 independent peshmerga groups themselves(and therefore dont pay tax to Bagdad about that).

Bagdad troops by that is not needed against Turks as well as Iranians there Its certainly not perfect, but having independent militias do exist. As seen those militias even was able to take too much by the big mistake by Barzani.

Jens Holm

You really dont understand things. This is not about military control but getting a better living standard by needed changes.

Thats the base for the uprises from the Jihadists as well as SDFs would like local rule for local matters and by that not all tax and oil money should be EATEN by Damaskus CORRUPTION.

Assads has denied all Surians that since 1970 – and then the military control finally collapsed.

occupybacon

All arab countries work the same, the main guilt of Assad was just not being an US ally

Derek Johnson

All arab countries work the same, the main guilt of Assad was just not being an US ally

Correction a vassal state, America projects Israeli foreign policy so you mean an “Israeli” ally.

Jens Holm

I am sure USA never expected Syria should go away from being a Russian vasal. Hard to see its a state at all.

The minoty named Baathists is exact the same kind of dirty people as communist in Kremlin, which also collapsed because they took the good parts of communisme away.

You dont have to be named Gamel Abdel Nasser to remember that as well as being a Baathist from Iraq.

Davki

This assertion, Sir, is quite wrong. Even neighbouring countries like Syria and Lebanon or Syria and Iraq have completely different tax systems, social services, social organisation, governmental and administrative institutions… the differences are way, way bigger than let’s say between European countries. It’s amazing how people can make assertions evidently without even the tiniest shred of actual knowledge.

Avi Schwartz (IDF:71, hamas:0)

If SDF join the butcher assad regime, they will become legitimate targets for the Israeli Airforce!

John Wallace

What is the IDF 71 , Hamas 0 mean. Is it 71 dead IDF , 0 Hamas from thelast time they fought each other. Just like your cock sucking twin brother Azriel . both being inveterate liars. Been away for a rectal douching ? also need an oral douching as well.

Pemba Sherpa

go make love to yourself you effing terrorist

Avi Schwartz (IDF:71, hamas:0)

shut up antisemitic little twerp

Pemba Sherpa

Oh poor little fuck used the worn out trick and turned himself suddenly into a Jew hahaha fuck off, fake Jew! Not even Jews like your kind. Nobody respects bunch of violent squatters. You a thief and a murderer and a scumbag who’s only connection to humanity is DECEPTION. How can you stand your own stench really?!?! lol

Jens Holm

I think You should understand his comment better. Thats brutto numbers and many jobs in armies are not fighting at all.

And yes, of course conscrips are included. Let me remind You that Assads as well as Erdogans also mainly are conscripts.

SDFs also are independent militias, so are they in that part of Syria, they will defend their own homes hard.

Dylan Madden

SDF is an independent militia? I don’t think you have a clear definition of the word independent.

Ivanus59

Might as well said they got 15 million fighters lol. Inflating those numbers to make themselves seem more important is really pathetic.

Mehmet Aslanak

What a misery that communist Kurdish statelet dream has fallen down, after Trump confessed US is in Syria just for the oil, not to found a communist state at a NATO ally’s border.

Jens Holm

And which Haddit is that :)

If the Baathists lived in Saudia-Arabia, they had no hands.

Vahlsing

There are over 22 terrorist gangster factions active in Syria, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is one of them.

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander-in-Chief of these Kurdish thugs, Ferhat Abdi Sahin said – SDF has today 80,000 fighters as well as 30,000 security personnel. HE TELLS LIES; HE IS BEGGING FOR ATTENTION, AND HE SHOULD GET NONE.

A good chunk of these terrorist gangsters Syrian Democratic Forces have splintered off, and have made deals with Bashar al-Assad & Russia. Syrian Armed Forces, Russia & other Syria allies are liberating Syria’s land mass of 185,180 sq km expeditiously and are closing in; Syrian Democratic Forces are worried about their own survival. These desperate terrorist gangsters SDF need money badly; they are looting-pillaging Syrians, and committing many other violent crimes, and should be in jail.

…United States never promised these terrorist gangsters Syrian Democratic Forces to give them their own State within the boundaries of Syria for their autonomous “fake” government.

…These terrorist gangsters Syrian Democratic Forces should not be on the committee or participate in Syria’s new Constitution.

These terrorist gangsters SDF have nowhere to run & better surrender or be dead.

Jens Holm

“…United States never promised these terrorist gangsters Syrian Democratic Forces to give them their own State within the boundaries of Syria for their autonomous “fake” government.”.

They never asked for that all. Its a notmal thing in more advanced states to have local parlaments for local matters taking tax for local matters. By that people are motivated for devellopment and higher living standards.

The structure for Syria is made for Emirate seizes as fx Damaskus, Aleppo and Raqqa provinces.

Keeping Syrians as poor stupid bums should not be allowed. Assads has had their regime for 50 years. Before the war 50% of the men was unimplyed and many more women was.

Thats were Your succesrate is.

Davki

It is true that the SDF most of the times proved to be a capable fighting force, most of the times better than the SAA, which only has a few elite forces and wasn’t doing great at all before Russia proped them up. Of course, the SDF is no more ‘terrorist’ than, say, the SAA or any other army in the region.

John

A used car salesman, circa 55′ in action!!!!

Jens Holm

Why not. I hope Assad soon will be dentist for Krimlins.

John

Don’t hope too much, it will limit the disappointment Jens.

Avi Schwartz (IDF:71, hamas:0)

If this Mazlum weirdo takes the side of the Butcher Regime, then all SDF will become legitimate military targets of the IDF and Israeli Airforce. Israel will NEVER tolerate the Butcher Assad Regime’s army increasing in size. Kurds are Israel’s friends, but bad decisions will make them our enemies.

Avi Schwartz (IDF:71, hamas:0)

The Kurds better not betray Israel by siding with the butcher regime. otherwise they will be introduced to the F-35 Adir! :D

Pemba Sherpa

you should consider going back to the circus you ran away from

Avi Schwartz (IDF:71, hamas:0)

antisemite

Pemba Sherpa

fuck your cheap tricks, fuck your cheap mouth and fuck yourself son of 1000 fathers

Davki

Where do you take this bubble devoid of sense from? The camps are far less along ethnic lines than the simplistic (or rather simpleton) media would have you believe. They would never ‘conscript’ people or force them to fight. Way too unreliable. They’d just squeal and bolt.

Mehmet Aslanak

And where were those 110k to protect M4 highway peace corridor from Turkish backed SNA?

Pemba Sherpa

worried about their own survival because there’s nowhere left to run…

Willing Conscience (The Truths

The SDF is a multi ethnic force now, Kurds only make up just over a third of that 110,000 total, perhaps 35 to 40,000, and all the rest are Arabs, Turkmen and other ethnic and or religious minorities. At the end of 2017 Trump began incorporating Arab and other ethnic groups into the SDF, they went from a force of 65,000 predominantly Kurdish YPG fighters, to a force of nearly 100,000 by the end of 2018, but the number of YPG fighters decreased significantly and the total number of non Kurdish fighters grew to be more than half the total fighting force, so approx 50% Kurds and the other 50% made up from the other ethnic groups. Now in 2019 the SDF is no longer really a Kurdish force, it’s much more diverse now with the Kurds only making up a little over a third of the total force, so I often wonder why the hell we call them the Kurdish SDF anymore, since most of them aren’t Kurdish anymore. The numbers have been changing constantly since 2018, the SDF has lost at least 35,000 Kurdish fighters who left the SDF to either join self defence units in their own home towns, or joined the ALF in Tall rif at to fight the Turks there, so for every Kurdish YPG fighter that still operates under the SDF banner, there’s another ex Kurdish SDF with SDF experience and training that operates under a totally independent banner now. And the number of Kurdish YPG fighters who left the SDF are roughly equal to the number of Kurdish YPG who still remain in the SDF, so I wonder if that’s just a coincidence or possibly part of some careful planning by the YPG leadership, mmm. I think it’s inevitable that the SDF will eventually have to come to terms with the Syrian government, neither the US or Russia are offering to help end Erdogan’s operation to implement the Turkish safe zone, so it’s only Assad that keeps saying he wants the Turks out of Syria, which means Assad’s their one and only viable option for ending the Turkish occupation. They don’t trust either Russia or the US when it comes to Turkey, but they do trust Assad on that one matter alone, so they know Assad’s their best option and the only person they can count on, so do they really have any choice in the matter, I don’t think they do.

the SAA has 200,000 soldiers, the SDF has 110,000 fighters, Pro Assad militias 100,000 militiamen, So if the SDF switched to government control, that would mean Assad would have over 410,000 men under his command, that’s one hell of a big army for a nation of only 19 million, for comparison the Turks next door have less than 400,000 soldiers but have a population of over 80 million.
