On July 19, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out new raids in the framework of the second stage of Operation Deterring Terrorism, which is targeting ISIS remnants in southeast Deir Ezzor.

According to the Hawar News Agency, the SDF special forces arrested an “Emir” [an Islamic term for commander] of ISIS in the town of Shheell. The Kurdish agency didn’t identify the terrorist. However, it revealed that he was responsible for distributing salaries for ISIS members in Deir Ezzor.

The SDF also carried out a series of raids in the towns of Jadeed Ekedat and Jadeed Bakara, where many suspects were apprehended.

A day earlier, the SDF seized loads of weapons, including 2,000 mortar shells. A number of suspects were also arrested in southeast Deir Ezzor.

Operation Deterring Terrorism was launched on June 4. The first stage, which targeted ISIS cells between al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor, was completed on June 10. The second stage was launched in southeast Deir Ezzor on July 18.

The operation led to a notable decrease in ISIS attacks in northeast Syria. However, the terrorist group is still present there, especially in southeast Deir Ezzor.

Its very difficult to do a job like this, because SDFs for now has nothing better for replacing. Turks even has allowed only one entrence to the help for the refugee part they feed.

Bill Wilson

I wonder how much money and weapons ISIS has hidden in their dirt berms across Syria that can be located using GPS coordinates?
