SDF Criticizes Russia's Silence Over Recent Turkish Attack In Northern Raqqa

Official flag of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have criticized Russia’s silence over the Turkish-led attack on the town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa on November 23.

In an official statement released on November 24, the Kurdish-led group questioned Russia’s role as a guarantor of the ceasefire in northeast Syria.

“The disregard of these attacks by Russian forces and their failure to play their role as a guarantor raises many doubts among our forces … This doesn’t commensurate with the role Russia aspires to play as the guarantor of a political solution throughout Syria,” the statement reads.

Militants of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) launched the attack on Ain Issa in the morning of November 23 with direct support from the Turkish military. Within a few hours, the militants managed to occupy several positons north of the town.

However, the SDF repelled the attack with direct support from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), that deployed several units in the area last month.

Ankara had accepted a deal to stop its attacks in northeast Syria in agreements with Russia and the U.S. The SDF’s failure to mention Washington in its statement rises serious questions about the real motives behind these accusations against Russia.

Now the kurds want the Russians to protect them. Whatever.

EveryoneIsBiased

I quote myself:

“…the Kurds have only accepted Russian meditation and the deal because the Russians promised to protect them from airstrikes. SDF now has naturally a right to complain! I also find a very important to stand against Russophobia. But EVERY rightful critique here is every time always attacked by those, who always defend everything Putin does. He is not perfect. And Erdogan has played him, and is now embolded by the renewed US-Turkish alliance. Supporting Russia against Russophobia does not mean one must act like an everything defending drone. The world is not black or white.

How can you rectify “the Kurds have only accepted Russian meditation and the deal because the Russians promised to protect them from airstrikes”? The Kurds were by agreement were to withdraw from the agreed 20 mile safe zone from the border, this has not been the case.

Derek Johnson

Kurd’s can’t take a hint, do the Russians have to spell it out for you?

EveryoneIsBiased

The Russians spelled it out, when they promised the Kurds that they would be protected from Kurdish airstrikes in the agreement. This has been widely reported, e.g. by Elijah J Magnier. Do i have to spell it out for you, or can you take the hint to google before posting BS?

Highway M4 should be protected from Turk NSA incursion. And if the SDF want to fight for it, more power to them. Therefore they have a right to complain. :)

The Kurds have no rights, they betrayed the country that gave them a home, sided with the US and the Israeli. The US hangs them out to dry and now they want SAA and Russia to protect them. Now the US is back for the oil and the Kurds wants to make up. WTF! Pick a side and stop acting like a 2 dollar whore.

George King

I agree, the Kurdish statement “the role Russia aspires to play as the guarantor of a political solution” does not include Kurds in the process of a political solution and because of several years of Kurds not accepting inclusion of Kurds into the Syrian proper as Syrians they now find themselves on the outside looking in. I know that not all Kurds belong to the leading criminal tribal groups and would prefer the offered agreements once offered by Syria and Russia but it is not to be. Offers were offered but rejected and now the door has closed……

John

I have had a feeling, which leads to a guess based mainly just on observation, that the kurds have been playing it cute with the Syrian Government and Russia. The US has entered back into the scene and they are trying to ‘play their cards’. This is not going to work. They will be extricated from everywhere they are trying to hold onto and they will not be happy. They have tried demonstrations and fire bombs. Now it is public complaint. None of this is going to fly. My take.

The town in on the M4 highway, so it is included in peace corridor. Whole purpose of the peace corridor distance 30 km or 20 miles is to prevent Kurdish communist guerilla use the highway. Russians know that very well.

Getting the oil revenue from the wells controlled by the American and the Protection from the Russians does not work … The Kurds confirm their stupidity

S Melanson

The Kurds complain about Russian Silence. Maybe Russia would show a little more enthusiasm if Kurds were not so opportunistic and mercenary to partner with the US to protect the oil fields from terrorists – protect in this case meaning plunder.
