A field commander of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was reportedly killed in a Turkish drone strike on the northern Raqqa countryside.
According to opposition activists, the commander, known as Hassan Nidal Suleiman, was killed in a drone strike that targeted the town of Ain Issa late on November 20.
Kurdish Syrian sources acknowledged that Suleiman, originally from the northern al-Hasakah countryside, was killed. However, they didn’t provide any details on the incident.
On November 21, heavy Turkish shelling targeted Ain Issa, where a center of the Russian Military Police and several Syrian Arab Army positions are located. No human losses were reported as a result of the shelling.
Earlier this week, the Hawar News Agency and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that Turkish forces are building a new military base near Ain Issa.
The new base is being built in the vicinity of the town of Saida, north of Ain Issa. The town overseers the M4 highway, which links al-Hasakah, Raqqa and Aleppo in northeastern Syria.
The recent movements near Ain Issa indicate that Turkey may be planning to take action against Kurdish forces in the town. This would be a major violation of Ankara’s agreements on northeastern Syria with Russia and the U.S.
With Biden controlling the reigns Turkey’s going to have a hard time giving the SDF a hard time from now on, hopefully Putin grows a backbone and does the same thing too. So the Turks used a drone instead of an artillery strike, that’s considerate of them isn’t it. The Turks are continuously bombing the areas the Russians control but they aren’t bombing any of the areas the US have personnel stationed, so I wonder why that’s the case, are the Turks more afraid of the US than they are the Russians, or do the Turks have a special arrangement with the US, mmm.
