On July 17, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched the second stage of its large-scale operation against ISIS remnants in northeastern Syria.
According to the Kurdish-led group, the new stage will target terrorist elements in southeastern Deir Ezzor. The U.S.-led coalition will support the operation.
“This stage will target ISIS hideouts and its cells, which are threatening stability and civil peace in the areas of Deir Ezzor, it come at the request of the people, chieftains, and elderlies of the region’s tribes, especially after ISIS increased its attacks on civilians,” an official statement by the SDF reads.
Several units of the SDF, including the group’s special forces, which are known as the Anti-Terror Units, YAT, are taking part in the operation.
Thus far, SDF forces have arrested a number of ISIS terrorists. Loads of weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation.
The first stage of the operation, called “Deterring Terrorism”, was carried out between June 4 and 10. A wide region between al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor was combed by the SDF. More than 100 ISIS terrorists and suspects were arrested.
ISIS cells sustained serious losses during the first stage of the operation. Nevertheless, the terrorist group’s threat was not fully eliminated. The second stage could help improve security in the northeast in the short term.
Why would they bother with these searches? ISIS do not attack them or the US backers in SDF controlled areas since the Raqqa agreement when thousands were allowed to leave with their heavy weapons unmolested to attack Syrian government troops
This is about finding Arab guns that are loyal to the Goverment in the oilfield areas nothing else if a few retards are picked up all the merrier for PR purposes
The SDF want their own state within a state and they don’t want people like themselves causing trouble and having their enclave attrach any heat, especially as the US and the isreali regime are backing them.
The SDF want to give the impression that they can build a state and secure it against people like themselves. The reality is they will squabble over spoils, the locals with starve and their enclave will dry up.
The SDF defile the Syrian title they give themselves. They want as little to do with Syria as possible and as soon as they secure their ‘homeland’ they will drop the Syrian bit in their title. Hunting down like minded terrorists shouldn’t be too hard for the SDF as US spooks know where all their ISIS guys are.
These captives will be redeployed elsewhere or later found fighting for the SDF to prevent the SAA from liberating the area.
Good job. Hunt down those turkish terrorists!
