More than 4,000 fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed while they were fighting for Kurds in Syria, Ferhat Abdi Şahin, Commander-in-Chief of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Party (SDF), revealed.
Abdi, better known by his nom de guerre Mazloum Kobani, revealed the information during an interview with the Ronahi TV that was aired on December 4. According to Abdi, thousands of PKK fighters played a key role in the 2014 battle of Kobani, which gave momentum to the war on ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
“They fought by our side for years,” Abdi said. “4,000 fighters of them martyred, and they were beside us until the end.”
Abdi also revealed that prior to the emerge of ISIS, the PKK supported Kurds in Syria against the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front, now known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.
“We, the people and forces of Rojava [northeastern Syria] can’t but praise the efforts of the PKK,” the Kurdish commander said.
The PKK is designated as a terrorist group by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union. The SDF and its main backer, the U.S, have denied any SDF affiliation with the group for the last four years, despite the overwhelming evidence of its presence in northeastern Syria.
Abdi himself was a senior PKK commander, and a personal friend of the group’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been imprisoned in Turkey since 1999.
The new remarks of Abdi are a rare SDF admission that the PKK played a major part in the military operations of the US-led coalition and the SDF in northeastern Syria. The PKK is said to enjoy a major influence within the ranks of the SDF.

SDF=PKK used to hand over lots of places to SAA when Turks attacked Remember Tel Rifaat, Manbij, Tabqa… Saying that PKK is friendly with Turkey is unrealistic

They took Raqqa being the ISIS Capitol, They took the Hajiin area, where the last ISIS land was. They also kiled manyISIS ones closing in Al Bab, where Assads did not a thing to support but only came closer hidden by the YPG. Assads also sold Afrin to the Tursk for nothing, because he woud give the Afrins nothing.
YPG is close with PKK for almost a decade (as You stated, nothing new). SDF was YPG rebranding attempt. Abdi is on interpol wanted list, he holds bloody hands since ’90-is, organizing PKK rocket attacks in Turkey. He did defend Kobani against ISIS. He has close connections with reps and dems in US, so this is interesting stunt indeed.
I see what PKK is helping with in Syria and do like that part. Turks has had 100 years t make better solutins for all Turkey but still deny 25% of its population or manyof the Kurds as well as many of the “Turk-Turks” rights as they anytime should have.

This is the worst political chess move I’ve seen in a long time. The SDF and PKK made themselves public enemy #1.
I dont think so. Turksnever has accepted any Kurd in the whole world can decide anything even in its most moderate versios having 7 million votes for the Tukey parlament.
We all know the differences as well. Kurds in Syria are – or were – a 40% minority in the northern parts of the SDFs of today Afrin and partly Azas incuded.
If those wanted to take over, it would make them look like Assads or Erdogans maing hard manipulated majority rule.
Thats one of several reasons Kurds by SDF prefare modern advanced local rule for local devellopments only.They by that just as the others living there would have important influence on local matter in a much improved way.
What we have seen by Assads are all oilmoney only are used in SDF to gain the oil and gas industry as well as the money for the oil and gas are gone to Assads in corruption and never comes back.
I wite my oppinion about it once more. It might be biased some, but ISIS took the oil and gas from the thieves in Damaskus. And after that the SDFs actualy get their part of it. I dont think SDFs can be named as thieves.
PKK in Iraq is similar to the Palestinian Liberations Organisation’s presence in Jordan in late 1960s-early 1970s, expanding their territorial control and influence in the host country, launching cross-border attacks, inviting external interventions and targeting host interests..This Sdf’s public confession comes right after the attacks that blowed-up the pipelines of Barzani which estimated costs over 100 million dollar and reported by every insurance company which puts pressure on usa hence Sdf..
Probably Usa to satisfy Turkey tansforms Pkk to friendly organism for Turkey in mid-long term..Needless to say Usa will abandon this project which was executed 40 years to cut İran-İraq-Syria transfer routes to strenghten İsrael…
Comparíng Barzanis with YPG and PKK is as far out as Pakistan and Bangla Desh.
Even under the Osmans, there was a Kurdistan Province in Iraq. It dissapeared in a very strangeway of negosiations after WW1 and now are kind of regained.
