On October 24, Turkish-backed militants launched another attack on positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern Raqqa countryside.
The attack targeted the town of al-Khalidiyah, which is located on the M4 highway. The highway links al-Hasakah with Raqqa and Aleppo. This part of the strategic highway was reopened by the Russian Military Police earlier this year.
According to the Hawar News Agency, the new attack was quickly repelled by SDF fighters, who destroyed a vehicle of Turkish-backed militants.
Turkish forces responded to the failure of their attack by shelling al-Khalidiyah and the nearby town of Hushan. No human losses were reported as a result of the shelling.
This was the third such attack by Turkish forces on SDF-held areas in northern Raqqa only this week. The first and second attacks targeted the town of Ain Issa and its outskirts on October 20 and 21.
The repeated attacks by Turkish-backed militants indicate that Turkey is planning to escalate the conflict in northeastern Syria. These attacks are a violations of Ankara’s agreements with both the U.S. and Russia.
