On March 24, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed that they have sustained losses in a recent attack by Turkish-backed militants in northern Raqqa.

The attack, which took place on March 23, was carried out by the militants of the Syrian National Army (SNA). Under the cover of Turkish artillery, the militants attacked several posts of the SDF in the village of al-Dibs near the town of Ain Issa.

The SDF acknowledged that seven of its fighters were killed in the attack. From its side, the SNA claimed that at least 21 fighters of the Kurdish-led group were killed.

“We affirm that the information about the losses of our forces which were shared by the media of the Turkish occupation is incorrect,” the SDF said in a statement.

In the statement, the SDF also noted that several SNA militants were killed or wounded in the course of the attack. The group didn’t provide any further information.

The situation around Ain Issa is currently clam. The northern outskirts of the town experienced a fierce battle between the SDF and Turkish forces last week.

Last year, Russia warned the SDF that Turkish forces are planning to attack and capture Ain Issa. However, the Kurdish-led group refused a Russian offer to hand the town to Syrian government forces. Instead, additional units of the Syrian Arab Army were deployed around the town.
