On September 9, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that two of its fighters were killed while taking part in its ongoing security-humanitarian operation in the notorious al-Hawl camp in northeastern Syria.

In a statement, the US-backed group said that the fighters were fatally wounded when they clashed with a cell of seven ISIS terrorists that was attempting to escape from the camp. Two of the cell members were women, while the remaining five were men disguised in women clothes.

The terrorists opened fire at SDF forces when they were confronted. Only one of the terrorist was killed. The rest were all arrested. Two assault rifles and an explosive belt were seized from the terrorists.

Al-Hawl camp, which is located in the eastern countryside of al-Hasakah, hosts tens of thousands of people, including foreigners. Many of the camp’s residents are relatives of ISIS terrorists, or suspected members of the group.

The SDF launched its security-humanitarian operation in the camp last year. The first phase took place between March 28 and April 2 of last year, while the second phase of the operation was launched on August 25 of this year.

Since the beginning of the second phase of the operation, the SDF has arrested dozens of suspected ISIS terrorists. Several hideouts and tunnels of the terrorist group were also uncovered inside the camp.

The SDF’s security-humanitarian operation will not likely end ISIS influence in al-Hawl camp. The only solution is to fully dismantle the camp, sending all foreigners back to their countries.

Dismantling the camp is a terrible idea, supported by the USA in order to send tens of thousands of terrorists to former Soviet Central Asian countries, to China, and to Russia. How about separating men from women, instead? Then after a few years women can return, while men will be accomodated more easily in the smaller camp.
