On September 9, security forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) suppressed another mutiny in the Geweran Prison south of the city of al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria.
Citing security sources, the Hawar News Agency (ANHA) said ISIS prisoners had started the mutiny while taking a break in the prison’s ground. During the mutiny, several terrorists attempted to escape. Nevertheless, security forces foiled the attempt and retook control of the prison’s ground.
“The area near the prison and the roads leading to it are still surrounded by security, and no one is allowed to approach,” ANHA reporter said.
Between 3,000 and 5,000 ISIS terrorists are being held in the Geweran prison, which is run by the SDF with support from the U.S.-led coalition.
ISIS prisoners staged several mutinies in the Geweran prison this year. On July 30, the terrorists broke the prison’s wall. SDF’ security forces responded with fire, killing 16 terrorists and injuring dozens others.
The situation in the Geweran prison appears to be spinning out of control. ISIS prisoners are eager to escape from the prison as many smuggling routes from SDF-held areas to Turkey and northeastern Syria are open now.
