On May 3 morning, ISIS prisoners started a mutiny in the Geweran prison south of the city of al-Hasakah in northeast Syria.
The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) quickly dispatched a large, well-armed force to restore order in the prison. Several sources reported that U.S.-led coalition warplanes were also observed flying over the prison, likely to monitor the situation.
In the afternoon, sources in the SDF told the Hawar News Agency (ANHA) that the mutiny ended, confirming that the prison is again under control. No casualties were reported.
3,000 to 5,000 ISIS terrorists are being held in the prison, which is being run by the SDF with support from the U.S.-led coalition.
Last March, the prisoners staged a similar mutiny and managed to take over parts of the prison for at least two days. Some reports claimed that few prisoners even manged to escape. However, these claims remain unverified.
ISIS foreign detainees in the prison may be worried of the SDF’s recent decision to hold trials over them in Syria. The group’s legal body is reportedly making preparations for the trials.

Trials to verify their guilt and then jail time for all the guilty, that’s OK by me, and if the US has to pay for it all even better. They should also be repatriated to their own countries of origin to be completely fair, the countries who sent them or let them go to Syria shouldn’t be let off scot free, those countries should rightfully be paying for the upkeep of their own ex Isis fighters. But some of the countries the Isis fighters came from would just put them back out on the streets if they were sent home, so they can’t all be repatriated, and for the one’s that can’t be repatriated there has to be another solution, and the ancient Romans had the best solution for punishing their worst criminals, they were sent to the galley’s or the mines, and they stayed there until they died, I hope president Assad takes that approach when it comes time for him to start sorting out his captured Isis fighters. If the US starts forcing countries to repatriate their own Isis fighters it’ll set a precedent for Assad to be able to do the same thing, so I hope that’s what the US intends to do.
