SDF To Hand Over Tabiyah Oil Field East Of Deir Ezzor To Government Forces - Reports

Click to see the full-size map

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) may hand over the Tabiyah oil field and its nearby facilities to pro-government forces.

According to reports refering pro-Damascus journalists operating on the ground, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have already entered the oil field area.

However, no photos or videos confirming them are available right now.

This development may indicate the first step in the reconciliation between the SAA and the SDF in the province of Deir Ezzor.

Tensions between the sides have beeen growing since the US-backed force launched an advance north of Deir Ezzor aiming to seize key oil and gas infrastructure on the eastern bank of the Euphrates while the SAA fights ISIS in Deir Ezzor city.

Very good news if it signifies long lasting peace between all Syrians.

WinstonSmith

Syria can’t have longlasting peace with landgrabbing Kurds, ISraelis and Turks around. Just yesterday the US terrorists were saying there’s no place for the “Syrian regime” in Raqqah.

You can call me Al

Yes I saw that. I think the Yanks have opened their mouth and it will be closed one way or the other.

Mauro Craizer

If Syrian Government does not approve, Kurds can say, or claim all they want, they can’t finance themselves if they are confined inside “their” territory. Erdogan will have to decide as well, Idlibstan failed project or Kurdistan-LOL Imo, he will have to play along with legitimate Syrian Gov. Sorry guys, this time your violent coup did not happen, time to face the truth. US & Zio swamp hate it!

Garga

I heard another good news which needs to be confirmed: Elite SAA unit clearing the AQ pocket near occupied Golan.

Solomon Krupacek

and lost amost all tanks

John Veitch

regards Solomon, could you post some links?

Solomon Krupacek

please:

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/west-ghouta-al-qaeda-terrorists-knock-six-syrian-army-tanks-one-day/

sad day

Daniel Castro

According to you those tanks are not of much value anyway…

Solomon Krupacek

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/west-ghouta-al-qaeda-terrorists-knock-six-syrian-army-tanks-one-day/

then why sent thise tanks in the battle?

Daniel Castro

They are something like VBIED of the SAA…

Solomon Krupacek

i read, brasil want participate on repair of syria.

Daniel Castro

It’s just a token gesture.

Anyway, it shows that not everything is like people think, the leftist “socialist” government of Dilma Roussef was fast to condemn Assad at the start of the war, and now the “CIA agent” Temer wants to do business with Syria.

John Veitch

That is good news. Thank you.

gustavo

Not yet, let us see what USA decides to do.

Zainab Ali

great news if this is true – kurds’ and sdf’s barks are worse than its bite

MikeH

Is this part of a grand deal or is this in response to an ultimatum from Damascus? I don’t see how the SDF could keep the SAA out of the territory even if they wanted to.

Manie

With the events unfolding in Iraq, and Barzanis defeat I suspect the Kurds realised that the U.S cannot be trusted and now they find themselves between a rock and a hard place to put it mildly. Reality is slowly beginning sink in for the Kurds. Hopefully they can come to some agreement with Syrian Government where all sides benefit. Why have enemies if you can have friends…..well, sort of friends..

You can call me Al

They should have learned from Iraq and their uprising against Sadam.

You can call me Al

Maybe something to do with the Turks as well ?.

Loz

Well ‘the Grand Deal’ will be different that might come into play in Iraq, but some form of accommodation of Kurdish/Arab interests there will be.

By the way, a UN agency almost swung an very good framework to accommodate all interests in the Northern Iraqi Kurdish/Arab area – but events overtook them, and the framework never saw oxygen.

A current (17 oct 2017) revival of the possibility is here: https://www.crisisgroup.org/middle-east-north-africa/gulf-and-arabian-peninsula/iraq/55-settling-iraqi-kurdistans-boundaries-will-help-defuse-post-referendum-tensions-0

This is a very well balanced, in-depth outline of the situation from the perspective of all parties, and outlines a very credible UN overseen framework to settle all interests.

The bugbear, as the report notes, is USA unpredictability in the face of the obdurate attitude of Mr. Trump to Iran.

Lone Wolf

Where is dutchnational now … ? I would like his input now…..

Wahid Algiers

…and Jens Holm and KennethLindsey and and and….

Kennethllindsy

Ha. If you had been following my posts at all you would know that I never bought into the anxiety about the oil fields being useful to SDF who already has plenty of oil.

FlorianGeyer

What do you think the end results will be in Deir Ezzor ? Please let us all know when you have polished and looked deeply into your ‘Chrystal Bollock’ Kenneth .

Kennethllindsy

City or Province? SAA will finally take city at some point, hopefully. As for DEZ Province, from what I can tell the 10,000 Arab SDF force never materialized; so then it’s a question of desire by YPG/SDF to expend time & manpower taking any area other than the Khabour River Valley.

Sure, the US DOD probably would like for SDF to capture lower Euphrates to Bukamel, but so far haven’t seen anything to suggest that YPG/SDF considers it a priority especially with Turks invading Idlib & threatening Efrin.

SAA & Russia are somewhat compelled to push south and clear the area, but you can reasonably guess it will take a large number of SAA permanently stationed at Dez & Mayadeen & Bukamel to keep Sunni Tribes under control.

(Also Iraq screwed up attacking KRG with force, so now Iraqi ability to hold Euphrates River Valley is further in doubt as Iraq will have to disperse forces to hold areas that the Kurds were maintaining).

Even if SAA & RF clear Furat River Valley, expect an insurgency to be-devil them for some time.

FlorianGeyer

Interesting view. Time will of course be the judge. The Sunni tribes, as any grouping anywhere will likely be willing to coexist as they have in the past. The trauma of any insurgency by them is unlikely to be welcomed by the majority who gained little , if anything, from their warlord leaders collusion with ISIS and the stolen oil trade.

Ordinary citizens in any country just wish for a roof over their heads to raise a family, a reasonable job, healthcare, schooling, sanitary services and a rule of law without oppression. They do not wish to live in a battlefield.

Kennethllindsy

Don’t make the mistake of anthropomorphasizing the Sunni Arab Tribes as reasonable. They have been raiding for 3,600 years going back to when they raided Abraham & Lot in the bible. Despite having 178,000 troops in Iraq, the US never conquered Anbar Province and only won after they paid the Arab Tribes over $30 billion during The Surge.

Wahid Algiers

Yes. This point is not well known by many commenters here. The region around al Qaim/al Bukamal is populated by ISIS minded/sunni minded supporters.

Kennethllindsy

Don’t know how committed they are to supporting ISIS per second as ISIS was uniquely brutal, but they are of independent minds in that they are more loyal to family and tribal traditions than they will ever be to a distant government that is just lines on a map. For decades, the Syrian Government basically ignored Deir Ezzor and let the tribal chiefs rule semi autonomously.

John Veitch

Couldn’t have put it any better. I cannot understand the ordinary Americans views on this war. Regards

FlorianGeyer

I hope that ordinary Americans wake up to the impoverishment of the US for he benefit of the 0.01% before it is too late to remove the Zionists peacefully.

dutchnational

DeZ military Council has some 4 to 6k fighters as far as I know, but many arabs from the region joined the YPG and even YPJ directly. YPJ now has some units 100% female arabs out of Tabqah and Raqqah. Many others are mixed.

As SDF now has croessed the Khabur river north of Suhwar, they are moving southward along the road there and have taken already several villages on the east side of the river.

Likely they will take the whole countryside there, maybe with the exception of (part of) Omar fields.

χρηστος

plenty of oil in iraq not SYria…i think that these are the only ones Kurds have in SYria.

Kennethllindsy

No, there are huge amounts of oil on Kurdish lands in Dohuk region. Far more than at Dez. Oil was never the impetus for SDF/YPG but was important to local Dez Arabs.

dutchnational

He said in Syria. Dohuk is in Iraq.

However, there are many fields in the kurdish part of the north, Rumeilan oil fields and others. Pipelines extent to almost the point where Turkey, Iraq and Syria come together. Search google. Alltogether, Syrian oil remains relatively unimortant and was in decline even before IS. Do not know about shale oil and gas though.

Kennethllindsy

The Dohuk Field goes into Syria. Wells are coming in at over 10,000 barrels per day, which is amazing.

John Veitch

You often present good posts. I don’t always agree but nonetheless good, interesting stuff. Regards

χρηστος

didnt know that…..

Loz

Dohuk is in Iraq only.

http://www.oryxpetroleum.com/uploads/PDF/Kurdistan_Region_of_Iraq_Investors_Map.pdf

Kennethllindsy

You did notice that was a 2014 map that you posted. DNO hit over 10,000 bbl per day in the Dohuk Region this year and the reports that I saw said the field goes into Syria. Whether or not in Syria it’s part that singular specific field as we would define under Texas Railroad Commission Rules or just same/similar structure; it one of the biggest oil boom areas on earth right now and the Russians and Everybody Else are trying to get into the area in both Iraq & Syria.

Wahid Algiers

Oh Kenneth, you have dreams. Ok. I dream the syrian kurds will join a syrian nation within a kurdish self-administrated area and under the protection of the syrian government with full rights of all syrian citizens. All they have to do is to negotiate with the other Syrians and to leave USrahells lap.

Kennethllindsy

It’s probably going to be whatever Russia decides.

Wahid Algiers

Nor Russia nor the US if Syrian gov. and Kurds are unique and negotiate.

dutchnational

Like wise, Khabur Vally agriculture much more important.

Solomon Krupacek

jihady algiers is unfortunately always occupying this forum

You can call me Al

hahaha – yeah I could do with a good laugh.

dutchnational

See above.

Am a bit distracted. Going to be grandfather any day and am preoccupied. Sorry guys and girls, unlike some here, I also have another life.

Moussa Saab

I think he switched his account back to Solomon Krupacek.

andy l

If this is true then I see no point in the SDF advancing to the Omar fields. Perhaps they realise they have little chance of holding these areas let alone a legitimate claim in the first place

Kennethllindsy

As far as we know, SDF never really tried to take Omar Fields anyway.

You can call me Al

I agree. They could have a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t. I think that is a very wise move.

But remember the Yanks are in the area as well, the next few weeks / months will be very interesting.

Kennethllindsy

True. The SDF could have easily taken the oil fields at Resafa but instead let the SAA take them instead.

John Veitch

Hullo K, I never did understand that. Regards

Bill Wilson

All the oil in that region is very low grade garbage that’s requires expensive EOR methods to extract. Nobody wants to buy it either

gustavo

Wrong !

Bob

A couple of key logistic issues. As SDF moved rapidly south and continually expanded their contact lines they stretched their resources. Furthermore, on the east side of Euphrates River, they need to span a decent sized tributary waterway to get to the Omar Fields. That in all likely-hood would require US military engineers, with mobile bridging infrastructure, to both operate very deep inside Syria and on an active ISIS contact line.

Kennethllindsy

Several reports that SDF crossed Khabur River in multiple places today, so either water level is low or SDF took swimming lessons?

Bob

But that is way further north of province – not as wide a waterway, plus, the roads and bridge situation likely be completely different to that of the SDF have on east bank to immediate south of Dier Ezzore city.

Kennethllindsy

Aren’t there about 3 dams on Khabur near Hesakah controlled by SDF? But it is true that there aren’t any reports about bridges, so SDF could have driven across.

gustavo

You do not know USA intentions. This is not only depend on kurds will, it depends on USA plans and will.

Kennethllindsy

It’s pretty straightforward, if SDF & Coalition wanted Omar Fields they could have easily taken them. Armchair Assadis have gotten all lathered up got nothing.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

This is likely because of the lack of troops and nothing else, but also the fact that KRG was a major fail. The US relied on a weak and incompetent corrupt leader in Masoud Barzani.

Man Dagang

Again these kurds becoming prost to Saa butchers follow order from usa gay pimp

Turbofan

bastard..You just cannot live with peace breaking out soon can you?

zman

Another new troll. Is this the new dialog your masters have for you? There must be something to this story if the ‘coalition’ is promoting this sort of blather. The Kurds may be awakening to the fact they are nothing but fodder to the Zionists. If so, this war will end even sooner. Too bad, so sad…your bunch may be unemployed soon. You, dutchnitwit, mountains, bill wilson and all the rest of your troll cadre better start looking for legitimate work. Do they have legitimate work in Israel?

FlorianGeyer

” Do they have legitimate work in Israel? ”

I think the work in Israel involves a table and lots of vaseline Zman.

MH370

he is a saudi troll sympathetic to isis and al qaeda… fucking malays

Langaniso Mhlobo

Puppet of butcher United Shit of Asses (USA).Propaganda mouth piece of CNN and MSM or maybe white helmet spokesman to please Britain and France.

RGtz98

Hope SDF joins Syria peacfully for the most part but first take out the ‘coalition’

jerry hamilton

I would love to see the faces of Trump and Netanyahu Must be a picture.

Solomon Krupacek

this is agrement between usa and russia

jerry hamilton

Wow. I’m in shock. America doing the right thing. Hang on. America never do the right thing. Are you on drugs?

Solomon Krupacek

america does not do the right thing. simply makes business.

Jesus

Before reconciliation can be in full effect, SDF has to give up all ill gotten territories it is ocuppying. And SDF needs to tell US to take a hike, they need to live in the area in a peaceful manner without the US and Israel stirring the pot of sectarian strife.

Wahid Algiers

Is the pilot freed who was shot down by Israhell and captured by kurds?

Jordan Katz

I heard he was still missing. The SDF said they never found him, or even the Su-22 wreckage. I found that to be very suspicious.

Jesus

The pilot was captured alive, I have not heard much of what happened to him, the matter was not covered by news.

cortisol

Semi autonomy without USIS bastards in Syria.

Joe Doe

Sooner or later Kurd’s will be backstabb by Americans. Part of american culture is lying, backstabbing and betrayal

GRAHL

Hopefully a pattern we’ll see more of as time goes on. And eventually Syria will be whole again.

dutchnational

Small question : How will Assad get Erdogan out of its new Azaz and Idlib colonies?

Solomon Krupacek

this will do russians. big answer to small question.

Kennethllindsy

Unless done by SDF & Coalition, it won’t happen. Russia won’t risk Turks closing the Bosphorus.

Solomon Krupacek

also in war the bosphorus can not be closed

GRAHL

I suppose he’ll leave with minimal violence once he’s assured the Kurds won’t have an independent state along his southern border. Or he’ll leave with a significantly more violent initiative from Assad & Co. I believe the former, though the timeline could be longer than most would like. What say you?

Wind Hunter Steff

https://twitter.com/IvanSidorenko1

Vince Dhimos

Maybe concession has been granted by the other side — more autonomy in Rojava?

WinstonSmith

Maybe they’re buying time to turn some more factions of al-Qaeda/ISIS into SDF freedom fighters. Iraq has proved you can’t trust them Kurds, much less since they’re backed by the greedy US and ISraeli terrorists.

Kennethllindsy

Probably represents the reality that the oil fields have more value to the local oil brokers than to SDF, and are a stranded asset with Syria as the primary market. Additionally, other than Khabour River Valley — haven’t seen any massive attempt by SDF to take lower Euphrates River Valley yet.

Langaniso Mhlobo

If this is true then there will be favourable peace between Arabs and Kurds in Syria.United we stand decided we fall.If its indeed true then thanks to Iraq who so and teachers the Kurds that mother land and its natural resources can not be split and shared with United Shit of Asses. (USA)

FlorianGeyer

IF this information is true it is a Win Win for the Kurds and Syria as a whole. The insanity of this war has lasted for far too long.

Langaniso Mhlobo

This move will restore trust and freedom of movements in Syria.United you stand devided you fall.

Mountains

Jeep. Nothing really surprising the Americans are certified Assad supporters nothing really secret. They will soon order the kurds to vacate Raqqa. Backstabbed and used is the kurds

Mountains

The Americans truly have no honor and they even ordered the Iraqi army to raid the kurds in Kirkuk. Do you really think Abedi moved on them by himself??

miko

… and why not you silly imperialist ! or do you think that when people talk about a “Multipolar World” they mean some place where the US decides and green-lights everyone else’s move ?

TheSecular

I’d say it’s to time to come to the negotiating the table and continue to achieve diplomatic victories. SDF and SAA working working together we’ll bring peace to the country and hopefully the US won’t try to detour this peace process.

G Jetson

Its obvious the Syrian Kurds saw what happened to the Iraqi Kurds – at the end of the day, the US was always going to side with Turkey who is part of the NATO alliance and have strategic bases that are vital for both US and NATO.

The YPG Kurds finally realized they have been used by the US to get rid of the Monster they created – ISIS and AQ.

And once its done, the Kurds were going to be left stranded like the Iraqi Kurds have been.

So it was better to strike a deal with Assad to secure their future than to have the Turks wipe them out.

dutchnational

We will have to see what happens.

I rather think, if correct, it will be more like the deals on oilfields of Hassakah.

Assad gets to exploit the fields, incurs all expenses and around 30 – 35% of revenues go the SDF and allies. All this without “taking over” the area. Only technicians etc allowed, no armed forces.

Economically and for the future of Syria, the agricultural complexes are more important. For a recruiting base, the people themselves are more important.

John Brown

Like I said taking the oil fields is not the question holding them is . The SDF has been exposed as a joke who only took territory from ISIS because ISIS was ordered by their mutual slave master Israel to give it to them. Even in Raqqa the SDF did nothing. They only moved into and took areas after the USSA carpet bombed them to rubble, killing everyone and every living thing.
