On July 14, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) uncovered Iranian-made rockets prepared for launch in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
On Twitter, the SDF’s Coordination and Military Operations Center said that the rockets were uncovered during a joint patrol with a unit from the US-led coalition between Maamel and Izbah.
Photos released by the center show two Iranian-made Fadjr-1 107 mm rockets. This type has a range of more than 8 km and is armed with a 7,9 kg warhead. The photos also show four launch rails.
In the last three weeks, a total of six attacks targeted US-led coalition bases in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
- On June 28, a barrage of 32 rockets hit the US main base in the al-Omar oil fields.
- On July 4, explosions were reported near a US base in the CONICO gas plant.
- On July 7, a drone attack targeted one of the US bases in the al-Omar oil fields.
- On July 11, several explosions were heard at a US base in the CONICO gas plant.
- On July 12, a rocket struck the US main base in the al-Omar oil fields.
- On July 13, smoke rose from the vicinity of the US main base in al-Omar oil fields.
Iranian-backed Syrian and Iraqi forces were allegedly behind the recent attacks on US bases in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The Iranian-made rockets found by the SDF on July 14 indicate that Tehran’s allies may be indeed behind the recent attacks.
The SDF and the US-led coalition have been struggling to secure Deir Ezzor’s southeastern countryside for nearly two years now, to no avail.
