Units of the al-Bab Military Council of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Russian Military Police have carried out a joint patrol near the SDF-held town of Manbij in northern Syria, the pro-Kurdish media outlet ANF reported on January 8.
Accordign to the report, the patrol took place in the area between the town of Arima and the villages of Korhiyok, Kawikli and Jab Maxzum. All of these settlements are located west of Manibj. Two Russian armoured vehicles and 2 vehicles of the al-Bab Military Council reportedly participated in the patrol.
The Russian Military Police announced on January 8 that its units have started conducting patrols in the area. Despite this, Russian and Syrian servicemen deployed in the area have not entered the town of Manbij itself. They hold positions west of it.
Hmmm, I don’t like the SDF but if they can come to some sort of accord with the legitimate Syrian government, that would help wind things down.
SDF has many different groups and people.
But they were pretty anti-Assad all the same.
Kurds coming to their senses (slowly) and HTS digging its own grave in Idlib… Lets see how it unfolds.
The Russians are going to become the number one targets for Isis now, those patrols want to keep an eye open at all times, it’s not just for the Turkish proxies they have to worry about.
And that would give the Russians an excuse to step up attacks on them.
If they can find them that is.
If the Russians can find ISIS?
There were 4600 Isis fighter in Ar Raqqah and Al Hasakah that escaped/eluded the SDF campaign back in June/July, they just disappeared back into the countryside, the SDF hasn’t been able to find them, but they’ve been finding the SDF quite regularly lately, I think the Russians may face the same problem. Isis does still have some support in these governorates from some of the local Arab clans, not many but some.
Fair point, but we have to agree that Russia have a rather big and effective Intel machine, wich since 2015 have been effective in tracking down ISIS, atleast so far.
They will eventually, but remember back in December last year Putin announced that Isis had been totally defeated in Southern Syria. 13 months after we still have Isis there.
That is correct, i forgot that.
