Second NATO Combat Drone Mysteriously Crashed Near Libya's Tripoli

On November, 23 the US African Command annoucned that it had lost a “remotely piloted aircraft” over Tripoli on November 21.

“An unarmed U.S. Africa Command remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) was lost over Tripoli, Libya, Nov. 21.

RPA operations are conducted in Libya to assess the ongoing security situation and monitor violent extremist activity.

These operations are critical to counter terror activity in Libya and are fully coordinated with appropriate government officials.

The incident is currently under investigation.”

This became the second incident involving  a foreign combat drone in the Tripoli area this week. On November 20, a MQ-9A Predator B unmanned combat aerial vehicle of the Italian Air Force crashed at Tarhunah, southeast of Tripoli. The Italian combat drone was reportedly shot down by the Libyan National Army.
