According to the Syrian Interior Ministry, on Suunday, terrorist groups attempted to carry out attacks against civilian targets using 3 VBIEDs in the capital Damascus. According to pro-government sources, Syrian Security Forces had managed to obtain information shortly before the attackers infiltrated into the capital.
Syrian Security Forces managed to identify the three VBIEDs and chase them before they enter Damascus. Two VBIEDs were destroyed in the roundabout area of the Damascus International Airport but the third VBIED was able to enter the city before it was surrounded by security forces in Tahrir Square in Bab Touma district, where the suicide attacker blew up the VBIED.
According to official sources, 8 civilians lost their life and 13 were injured as a result of the explosion of the third VBIED. According to official sources, suicide bombers wanted to target crowded places as it was the start of work week in Damascus, the attack is supposedly a response to the Syrian Arab Army operation in the vicinity of Damascus.
So far no party has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is believed that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) might been behind it. HTS had already launched dozens of terrorist attacks in Damascus without recognizing some of them in cooperation with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Ahrar al-Sham Movement, the last of which was the attack on the Justice Palace on 15 March 2017.
The Syrian people have been under attack for over 6 years by these foreign powers, yet with their army and support from others, terrorists are on the run now.
