UPDATE (21.01.2019): Sergey Lavrov kept the position of the foreign minister in the new Russian government.

***

Acting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will not likely assume the position of the Foreign Minister in the new Russian government, according to Russian sources close to the Kremlin.

69-yo Sergey Lavrov was the Russian Foreign Minister from February 24, 2004 to January 15, 2020, when the entire Russian government resigned. Since January 15, Lavrov has been working as the acting foreign minister of Russia.

The newly-appointed Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, is currently working to form a new government. MORE HERE

This could really mean anything. What do we know about his replacement?

Dick Von Dast'Ard

Russian Security Council position?

FlorianGeyer

That would make sense. Mr lavrov is a titan in the world of diplomats .

I could readily understand if he wished to retire from the current demanding role that he now has at the age of 70.

Tudor Miron

I would understand him but he knows that his country needs him and that’s why he keeps serving. This may sound as pompous words but what he does is a true definition of serving his Motherland.

FlorianGeyer

They are not pompous words at all, Tudor.

Such truly patriotic AND straight forward government officials are a rarity, and always have been.

Such selfless men and women from all ‘walks of life’ are the reason that their nation IS worth fighting for.

James R

Hope this is incorrect, he is their best person.

MikeH

I think the bench is deep there. They have a strong tradition of statescraft in the last 20 years.

Assad must stay

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

John

He rates a break.

Lonesome Cowboy Burt

Needs a break?

Zionism = EVIL

Russia like Iran needs a tougher FM to deal with Americunt thugs and Zionist leeches. Lavrov was too soft and did not respond to the numerous threats adequately. Russia is now NATO’s prime target and should be building strong alliances and more resolute and united than the moth ridden Warsaw Pact. Iran is perhaps the best choice as a strategic partner as it poses no threat to Russia and is the guardian of its wide open southern flank where the Americunts will try to destabilize it from Ukraine to Caucasus and Iran is only obstacle to their designs.

ruca

I disagree. Lavrov always told it as it was. It’s not his job to brandish an automatic weapon and take out western idiots. The guy is 69 so I hope he gets a chance to rest.

Zionism = EVIL

Your point is valid, but to deal with fat murdering mafia pimp like Pompeo you need a tougher guy. Lavrov was a through diplomat and good at time when Russia was slowly waking up. Now Russia is quite powerful and assertive again and Putin is building a future and a new approach towards the Americunt murdering thugs and their NATO poodles is needed. They only understand strength.

LOL

AM Hants

You do know May is now Boris? Wonders of NATO surgical skills, allegedly.

FlorianGeyer

The best way to deal with Pompous Pompeo would be to declare him a Terrorist and assassinate the idiot.

zman

Boy, I like the way you think.

FlorianGeyer

Lol. ‘Whats good for the goose is good for the gandar’ :)

zman

I see an Iranian parliament member is offering a $3m reward for Trump. Not really a lot, but then again he ain’t worth much either.

Tudor Miron

We don’t need a tougher FM – Lavrov is an excellent diplomat serving his Motherland. When there’s need for tougher – there’s Shoigu.

Kananda

lavrov is zionist, who sold out syria to israel.

John

He has been on the job for 16 years. That is quite a long stint, for someone who is now almost 70 years old. The work he has done is dried concrete. A break for it is well deserved is my take Cowboy. I wish well to you.

FlorianGeyer

It means the same thing really. A figure of speech.

Ivan Freely

Damn. 16 years as Foreign Minister.

CHUCKMAN

No one can replace Lavrov.

He’s indespensable.

Zionism = EVIL

Luckily, no one is indispensable as all humans age and wither away from empires down to the individual. Dispensability is part of the finite cycle of life, so vain people like the fat orange buffoon Trump with the IQ of a cockroach have a hard time understanding that.

Davki

Likely is going to take over a different position then.

Saddam Hussein

As long as Putin stays in power its all good.

Zionism = EVIL

Putin in NOT going anywhere unless the suicidal cowardly Americunts drone him too. In any case Russia is now being pushed hard on the Yugoslav model, but the hubris filled Americunt and Jew arseholes don’t realize that Slavs are no pushover and have thousands of nukes and they will use them if it comes to that. Even Iran is now heading towards the nuclear threshold in a very short time.

FlorianGeyer

Russians also have the recent experience of ‘Khazar Love and propaganda’ shown to many tens of millions during the years if Stalin.

Russians are more immune to double-speak as a result.

The Americans however have yet to see the true horrors of Khazar domination, that can in fact be seen in Gaza today.

Tudor Miron

“Khazar love and propaganda” was busted and destroyed by Stalin. This is the only reason why he’s painted as blood thirsty murderer :)

Kananda

putin is an average politician. the tragedy of russia, that there is no one better. and not thousands of better. 1 country can not depend upon 1 politician.

cechas vodobenikov

Lavrov will only be replaced if he wishes to retire—perhaps his chain smoking is catching up w him?

Brother Thomas

Lavrov was a statesman, a diplomat, and a gentleman. He will be missed.

zman

As Russia might miss this man standing up in public to anti-Russian thugs and telling it like it is…I will miss him as well. When has there been a western diplomat with the brass balls to tell it like it is? Then, to be a personally likeable person to boot. His April fools jokes were gold, even as US pols acted like prigs. He has a sense of humor as well as a stare that could burn holes in his adversary. I will miss his presence.

Panthera Pardus

Confirmed ? Lavrov, Soghiu and the guy at the Finance

Kananda

the zionist triumvirate

Bobo Voxar

you know.. Kissinger is forced to ride a world in his 96 to solve all murican deep state shit … when he dissapear all murican foreign policy will fall to mud of braindead Pompeo

zman

Kissinger? You’re kidding.

Bobo Voxar

yes… its sad that you does not know -it means that your political knowledge is thin and surface riding …

Tudor Miron

I remember a couple of days ago South front posted and article where it was said that according to their “sources” Lavrov will NOT remain Russia’s foreign minister. It sounded like a wishful thinking. South Front, please! You can do much better than that. Please, look closely at your sources of information. Some of the articles that are posted here are nothing other than hidden anti Russian propaganda :).

Kananda

shut up, commie!
