Three suicide bomb attacks hit Saudi Arabia on July 4.
A suicide bomber killed two security personnel in Medina. It was the third suicide bomb attack of the day in Saudi Arabia. A suicide bomber blew himself near one of Islam’s holiest sites, the Prophet’s Mosque.
The incident occurred after twin blasts in the eastern city of Qatif, where the kingdom’s Shiite minority lives. Earlier in the day, two security officers were wounded by a detonation outside the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah.
Jihadism has existed in Saudi Arabia for a long time, but the nature of the threat in the country has been changed by recent escalation.
