At least seven Hezbollah fighters were killed in separate Israeli strikes that targeted southern Lebanon, the heartland of the group, on August 23.
Three of the fighters were killed in a strike that targeted the town of Tayr Harfa, where the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it targeted a cell of Hezbollah.
The IDF also said that a strike on the town of Ayta al-Jabal targeted Muhammad Najam, a prominent member of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit. Lebanese media reported that alongside Najam, his nephew Zulfiqar Radwan was also killed in the strike.
Saeed Mahmoud Diab, another member of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit, was killed in a drone strike that targeted the town of Marrakech, according to the military.
In addition, the IDF said that a fighter in the town of Mays al-Jabal who launched rockets at Israel was killed upon being spotted at a building used by Hezbollah. It added that another fighter in the town of Aitaroun was struck launching projectiles.
Hezbollah mourned seven of its fighters, including Najam and Diab, in separate statements during the day, without providing any further details.
The deadly Israeli strikes didn’t stop Hezbollah from launching attacks. The group shelled more than a dozen sites of the IDF, including the Mount Meron air traffic control base and the Northern Corps headquarters at Ein Zeitim base. It also launched multiple salvos of rockets at the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Shmona. Hebrew media reported material losses only.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border broke out after the start of the war on the Gaza Strip last October, with Hezbollah and its allies launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Palestinian enclave.
So far, the confrontation has resulted in 26 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Golan as well as the deaths of at least 19 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 700 people have been killed, including 408 fighters of Hezbollah and over 130 civilians.
