Seven Russian S-300 air defense systems have been deployed in Syria, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.

“As you know, S-400 system was deployed a long time ago [in Syria]. In addition, we have deployed seven S-300 systems to cover the part of the sea practically to the territory of Cyprus,” the defense ministery said at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with the ministry’s leadership and defense enterprises.

Russia also deployed Bastion coastal systems which virtually cover the entire Syrian coast, according to Shoigu.

“These complexes are able to destroy both sea and ground targets at a distance of 350 kilometers of the sea and almost 450 kilometers of land,” he said.

Shoigu emphasized that the Russian Navy’s task force in Syria is defended by the Bastion and the Russian bases are now defended from low-flying targets.

“Pantsir systems are supplied there because of that. In addition, over the past four months the Syrian S-200 systems have been restored, which cover the Syrian territory from the east among other things and support the protection of our bases in Tartus and Hmeymim from the air.”

Serious

This should have been done decades ago.

paul

I find this interesting. It does, however, suggest a question to me that may be someone can answer, or at least give some insight. If the usa attacks they will probably only use missiles. Clearly Russia has the means to shoot these down, or at least some of them. My question is this. Would this be the full extent of the Russian response or would they attack the source of the missiles? For example ships and bases. Doing the latter would be the sensible military option. But would this be the Russian response?

Serious

USA will never do a stupid thing like this. If USA attacks and their missiles are neutralized, USA will look like a clown. Just like keep hitting a wall.

USA wants to attack defendless country to show how “strong” they are. But, in front of a powerful country, they always attack at 5, 6, 7, .. countries to destroy it.

Jens Holm

Yes agree – More like that than the toysoldier level. Might be Trump has some kind of that oppinion, but Obamas has certainly not during the last 3-4 years.

John

Hello Paul. I will go with the example of the response that took place after an attack by coalition forces at Deir ez-Zor, involving Russian and Syrian casualties. As the story goes, the Russians hit back and hard. They were also discreet. After they nailed an important rebel HQ supported by the coalition. The Russian MoD warned the West that ‘we know where your “unadvertised specialists” are, how many of them are around and you cannot figure they are really all that safe from us’. This was a very powerful message. Since that time, the West has been very chilled about what it does in Syria, where the Russians are located and careful not to hit the SAA forces.

My opinion is, if they actually try something like either attacks by missiles or aircraft, something of theirs will cease to exist. With an S-400, now 7 S-300 and somewhere between 1 and 70 Pantsir – S1 systems in country, in addition to revitalized SAA air defense systems, it would be absolutely stupid to try an attack of that magnitude. Realistically, Washington DC or Berlin might be an easier target to get to with that kind of attack. It’s my take on it. Have a good day.

Jens Holm

I read, ou are at the plastic child soldier level pretending US/Nato/Israel doing this and that.

Cant see they are attacked other things than allowed.

Very infected, what You write.

John

Hello Jens. Pardon me but, I have no clue as to what you mean. Could you run it by me again?

Hei Xiuying

The borker followed me here from livemap which is infested with trolls of many magnitudes. Largest group is Turks which post immature things that involve the privates.

Jens Holm

When people write shit, they get it back as the well known an eay for an eye.

I didnt follw You from liveupdate map. You followed me. I read a lot to be updated trying to see facts for shit. I bork shit wasting mine and many 1000 other readers, which has to read that – too.

John

Wrong again. You are the one who posted first to me and another commentor here. You must be in outer space man. You don´t remember what you did yesterday. You have demonstrated now, with 3 different commentors just on this thread, that you are the shit starter. Now you can keep on going like this, it´s fine. You have free will, God gave it to you and use it as you wish. I am not going to pay anymore attention to you, until you act a little better towards myself and the others here. So, I wish you well. Flame away as you wish or put that aside and come help us stop this stuff that is going on in places like Syria. A good day to you.

John

Good morning Hei. I don´t give Jens much value in the posts he offers. It is mostly insulting and uninformative. He just says stuff. In a post to me, he stated I don´t know anything about warfare. Anyone who has read my posts knows I was a US Marine. I was taught, mentored and served with people who fought all over the planet. I wonder if he ever once tied up laces on a pair of combat boots, never mind wore them on active duty. It is always easy to spot those who have had zero military exposure. It is just the way they carry themselves. Have a good day.

Jens Holm

Easy. You dont know anything about warfare at all.

John

Nope.

Jens Holm

You write about ghosts which are not there.

John

Not really. Was it not that over 50 mid level and up members of the US Department of State signed a letter, demanding attacks like cruise missile strikes be undertaken in Syria not too long ago? This was something very public and you should have remembered this. So Paul asks a legitimate question, about something that was officially advised. I see no ‘toy soldier’ mentality in his question. He asked about a position that actually existed. You can have your opinion about ‘ghosts’ but, it has to jive with reality to be of benefit. Just my take on it. ;)

Ronald

I must agree with John , up until last week the only US involvement in Syria was USAF. Since the election , they have claimed to want to “drone” Al Nusra , and are landing 20 or 30 thousand troops for the Raqqa offensive . The outgoing Obama war machine does not want this war to end, and are stepping in for the first time on the ground. The objective is too make it harder for Trump to stop their war on Syria .

George King

President Putin and the military command has left no doubt about exterminating any and all threats to Russian forces and that would include those in and outside of Syria. There was a very sinister tone which left no doubt “Our forces will respond and we will not have time to evaluate the target/s or by whom”.

Barbarossa296

Good. Now take out a few of those American, Israeli, Turkish, and other aircraft that are flying in Syrian air space without the Syrian government’s permission.

Jens Holm

bork – far out. Vey slow learner.

John Whitehot

did the butthurt from clintons defeat relent just as much to give you back the ability to seat at a computer and type?

Jens Holm

I got PC in 1996 and it has given me a lot included a better economy. Well, some shit too.

hawaiiguy

Appears they need to deploy them closer to Raqqa as that’s where the US has setup its “terrorist protection zone”
