In the morning of August 8, radical militants launched a barrage of Grad rockets at the key towns of al-Haffah and al-Qardahah in Lattakia’s countryside.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reporter in Lattakia said that the attack injured at least five civilians, including two children.
“The terrorist attacks also caused heavy material losses in the locals’ properties,” the reporter added.
Al-Haffah and al-Qardahah, the hometown of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, are among the biggest urban centers in Lattakia countryside. Since the beginning of the current month, Idlib militants have stepped up their rocket attacks on the governorate’s countryside.
On August 2, a rocket attack on al-Qardahah killed a civilian and injured three others. Two days later, the town of Slanfah in northern Lattakia was targeted in a similar way. A civilian was injured as a result.
These repeated rocket attacks on Lattakia’s countryside were among the reasons that forced the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to resume its military operations in Greater Idlib. Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and al-Qaeda-affiliated factions are believed to be responsible for these attacks.
