Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out on November 7 more than 20 airstrikes on militants’ positions in the southern Idlib countryside.
The airstrikes targeted the towns of Hass, Benin, Maarzita, Ma’aret Hurmah, Sarjah, Kafar Roma, Sheikh Mustafa and the city of Ma`arat al-Nu`man.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), three militants were killed in the Russian airstrikes. The UK-based monitoring group didn’t name the faction of the slain militants.
The southern Idlib countryside is a part of the so-called Greater Idlib region, that’s controlled by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other terrorist groups.
The intense airstrikes on the region suggest that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) may soon launch a ground operation there. Such an operation will be aimed at detering, or even neutralizing HTS and its allies in this particular area.
