At least six fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed during a recent operation to capture an ISIS cell commander in southeastern Deir Ezzor.
Baladi News, a pro-opposition outlet, said the operation, which took place on July 16, involved an air-landing by a joint special force from the SDF and the US-led coalition in al-Tukihi. The unnamed ISIS commander was reportedly hiding in a civilian house inside the town.
ISIS confirmed the incident and revealed that its commander was killed when US-led coalition warplanes carried out an airstrike on his hideout after the failure of the air-landing.
“A number of [US-led] international coalition soldiers and PKK [ISIS term for the SDF] personnel were killed and wounded during the clashes, in which the Islamic State [ISIS] fighter was also killed after refusing to surrender himself … His house was bombed by the international coalition warplanes,” a press release by ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, reads.
Local sources claimed that the airstrike killed at least five civilians who were near the hideout. However, these claims have not been confirmed, so far.
This was the latest of a series of joint anti-terrorist operation by the SDF and the US-led coalition in northeastern Syria. Last week, a major financer of ISIS was killed during a similar operation in eastern Deir Ezzor.
Nice to see things actually happend there, and it was no fake
If the intel was good they should have just bombed him in the first place and they wouldn’t have 6 dead.
Yhis is such a mess after such a long time. SAA / Russia, take Idlib. Russians special forces creep into the East and start assassinating and ISIS or SDF that moves.
Whats this, perception management to counter the photo of the ISIS flag flying in “Kurdistan”.
