At least three people were killed on July 5 in a vehicle explosion inside the town of Reyhanlı in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, near the country’s border with Syria.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters that all the causalities were Syrian nationals and didn’t rule out the possibility of a “terrorist attack.”

“It is obvious that the car was bomb-laden,” Erdogan said in Istanbul after Friday prayer, according to the Anadolu Agency.

Rahmi Dogan, the governor of Hatay, told the Anadolu Agency that the cause of the blast was yet unknown. However, many sources suspected that it was caused by an improvised-explosive device (IED).

Reyhanlı is hosting thousands of Syrian refugees. In 2013, a booby-trapped car exploded in the town claiming the lives of more than 50 people. Back then, Ankara accused the Syrian intelligence and Turkish collaborators of planning and carrying out the deadly attack.
