On March 26, six civilians were killed in two separate terrorist attacks in Syria’s central region which were both attributed to ISIS.

In the eastern Homs countryside, terrorists believed to be members of ISIS attacked a group of civilians who were collecting truffles in the area of al-Shaer near the ancient city of Palmyra. The terrorists killed four of the civilians and abducted two others, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Later, the London-based monitoring group reported that two civilians, a man and woman, were killed after their motorcycle was hit by an ISIS landmine near the town of Mustariha Tahmaz in the eastern countryside of Hama. The two victims were also truffle hunters.

The two attacks came just days after reports of a massacre by ISIS terrorists in central Syria. The terrorists attacked a group of truffle hunters between the areas of Jurf Marina and Hariba to the east of the town of Salamiyah in the eastern Hama countryside on March 23. Seven civilians and eight tribal fighters, who were guarding the group, were slaughtered by the terrorists.

Several terrorist attacks were reported in central Syria in the last three months. More than a 100 people, mostly truffle hunters, shepherds and travelers, were killed. ISIS has not claimed responsibility for any of these attacks, so far.

Syrian government forces deployed large reinforcements in the central region recently. Russian warplanes are also conducting sorties over the region on a nearly daily basis. It is possible that a new operation is being prepared to counter ISIS.
