On January 16, an assassination attempt targeted Somalia’s government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu in the country’s capital, Mogadishu.
The Somalian official was wounded in an alleged suicide bomb explosion. According to the prime-minister’s office his wounds were not serious. Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu was transported to Ankara, Turkey for a specialized medical treatment.
The al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The assassination attempt may be linked to the up-coming parliamentary elections that should take place by February 25th.
Sunday’s attack came after Somali leaders agreed this month to wrap up , after repeated delays that have threatened the stability of the country.
