The son of Yemeni ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh vowed to fight against the Houthis and Iran on Tuesday, according to Saudi-owned al-Ekbariya TV.
“I will lead the battle until the last Houthi is thrown out of Yemen … the blood of my father will be hell ringing in the ears of Iran,” the Saudi media quoted Ahmed Ali Saleh as saying.
Ahmed’s father – former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh – was killed by the Houthis on December 4 after he had switched sides in the conflict and attempted to capture the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
Ali Abdullah Saleh was aiming to use his forces to establish control over the capital and to align with the Saudi-led coalition, which invaded Yemen in 2015.
Now, the many depends on the attitude of the remaining Saleh forces. If the Saudi-led coalition is able to use Ali Abdullah Saleh and establish control over his father’s supporters, it will get a chance to strengthen its position in the war-torn country.
