The son of Mohammad Raad, head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary wing, was among five fighters of the group who were killed in an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon late on November 22.
Hezbollah announced the death of the five fighters, including Abbas Mohammad Raad. As usual, the group said that the fighters were killed “on the road to Jerusalem” without specifying when or where they lost their lives.
Lebanese media reported that Abbas and the other four fighters were killed when the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) struck a house they were in, in the town of Beit Yahoun.
Earlier, the IDF announced a series of strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, including a cell that was preparing to launch rockets at Israel and another one opened fire near the border. Video footage of the strikes were released.
Hezbollah fighters carried out 12 attacks during the day, targeting ten different Israeli military sites and six gatherings of troops and equipment. According to the group, the attacks were carried out “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance.”
Since the Hamas-led surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, Hezbollah and its allies have had near-daily exchanges of fire with the IDF along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
So far, the clashes on the Lebanese front have claimed the lives of six IDF troops, three Israeli civilians, 82 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, one fighter from the Lebanese Resistance Regiments, seven fighters from the Hamas Movement, four fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and 12 Lebanese civilians.
The death of Mohammad Raad’s son will not likely lead to a serious escalation as he was just a regular fighter of Hezbollah, not a commander.
