The Iranian Navy unveiled on December 7 a naval version of the Shahed-129 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), dubbed Simorgh.
The new UCAV was presented at a ceremony in the southeastern Iranian coastal city of Konarak, attended by Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi.

According to the Iranian Tasnim News Agency, the Simorgh has an endurance of up to 24 hours, a range of 1,500 km and a service ceiling of 25,000 feet.
Rear Admiral Khanzadi revealed that the UCAV can be used in combat, reconnaissance, tactical and electronic warfare operations.

The Shahed-129 was first presented in 2012. The UCAV carried out many surveillance and combat sorties against terrorist groups in Syria. Iran developed a family of Precision-guided munitions called Sadid especially for the UCAV.
Over the last year, the Iran boosted its local defense industry amid growing threats by the U.S. and Israel. The Islamic country developed air-defense systems, cruise missiles, combat drones and an array of other advanced weapons.
