Stalemate Near Tripoli: Libyan National Army Fails To Deliver Devastating Blow To GNA Forces

Support SouthFront

The rapid advance of the Libyan National Army (LNA) on Tripoli, which started on April 4, turned into a stalemate. By May 21, forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have stopped the LNA in the southern countryside of Tripoli and it seems that the LNA is not capable of delivering them a devastating blow if the situation remains same. Both sides are currently regrouping and resuplying their forces amid limited clashes at the contact line.

Donde esta la ONU ??? tanta basura que hablaron cuando Gadafi y ahora no les importa los civiles ???

David Parker

Quien es “ONU”?

Jens Holm

according to my google translate its EU.

Concrete Mike

yourngoogle is wrong its the united nations

UN

Jens Holm

Sorry, I meant UN. tks.

Concrete Mike

organization des nations unies.

UN

Jens Holm

I dont think UN as well as several others has expected it was that complicated.

Much like the Emir Bandits are back as before Italians and Gadaffi killed so many 1000 of them incl. many of the normal kind.

UN is a problem itself. It was made because coutries should not be split up and parts could be taken from each other after WW2. Here isof course wasnt only Europe but also the many areas comming from being colonies and into indepoendency.

But I think that attitude has been wrong for many years. Libya was the Emirates of Tripolis AND Bengazi. They also were the desertland deep into Sahara having other etnicities, languages and ways of living.

So I think we should work for a Libyan split up in at least 3 countries but the income in oil and gas should be shared after % inhabitants.

Its the same many other places in the world. The borders are made by the ancient Empires and even back in WW1 and still having problems about it still not workiing after 100 years of trying.

Libya was fine until the west toppled.Ghadaffi.

Advocating for the break up of Libya without saying a word about how we got there is disengenuous to say the least.

i have a better solution for you, we as in the west, get out of libya, tell nato to fuck off and spend our money on infrastructure projects at home.

do you know many bridges can be built for the cost of 1 F35?

put that in your google translate!!

Jens Holm

Libya wasnt fine at all before we went in there too. Its as we see “fine” very different.

As written many times before, I mainly are against invasions. A minimum would be to have good realistic plans for the future. I have not seen that before and now and for the future of Syria.

By that, I anytime would have supported any kind of boycut as well as sober information to them for other possibilities.

Comparing bridges with F35s dont make sense here. We can effort as many bridges and F35s as we wish, but we also have to need them.

We have plans for 2 major bridges and a small one is almost finished.

We also has ordered 25 F35s, scudmissiles for 4 korvettes a lot of smaller missiles as well as many armed vehicles for infantery.

Most of that is replacements for old stuff(fx F16). Only the Scuds are extra because the Russians has deployed new missiles in Kaliningrad and we by that at least can catch some of them.

We are abroad with different kinds of help as well. Its as usual open in our budget for the year.

The next year the budget says we have 10 billion extra to spend because we owe well for the time being. Those will not be spend on armory. We have gabs here and there and we are close to EU as well as Country elections, so the politicians tell us, what they prefare we should prefare.

I know they will add some more internet security by a more advanced police unit, more windmills which gives plus right away. We also will spend some millions for and againt the nature. Where we are, there will come more rain and harder changing with no rain at all. We also need to secure coaslines as well as harbours much better some extra the nextr many years.

So thats how it is here. Compared to many others we are doing fine. We can choose and not only bridges versus airplanes.

Libya was 2 different countries even being an affiliate to the Ottomans.

Promitheas Apollonious

so we have a mexican stand off.

TopTier

It took the LNA 3 years to completely liberate Benghazi. When they started the Tripoli offensive I thought perhaps they were on to something, that they knew something that would enable them to capture this city fairly quickly i.e. within months. Now I’m thinking that what they were hoping for was smaller militia’s in the region joining their ranks. This clearly did not happen & so now we are in a stalemate or Mexican stand off! 500+ dead already.

Any ideas where this might go…what happens next?

Promitheas Apollonious

it was going to be fast but then turkish army come to the aid of GNA both in man power and weapons and this is been going on for the last two months hence the stop of the advance.

Chris Gr

Elections or partition of Libya.

Len Zegelink

This proves my point :

The Turkish help to the Libyan terrorists.

The curse of the WW2 Desert War resurfaces. One sides gains the upper hand, advances to the point it can no longer support its offensive logistically, upon which the other side, which has now very short supply lines, gains the upper hand. And the GNA currently has very VERY short supply lines.
