Three civilians were killed and others were wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the Russian regime of Belgrade late on October 11.
Initially, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that a suicide drone launched by Kiev forces was shot down over Belgorade at around 23:50 p.m. local time.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor, later announced on Telegram that debris from the downed drone destroyed two residential buildings and that three bodies, including one of a small child, were recovered from the rubble.
“It’s a tragic morning for all of us. At night, preliminary, as a result of the fall of an unmanned aerial vehicle on the outskirts of Belgorod, two residential buildings were actually destroyed and several residential buildings and cars were damaged as a result of the explosion, but most importantly, three people were killed, one of them was small child,” Gladkov said.
Two more people are in critical condition in intensive care after the Ukrainian drone attack. All necessary assistance is provided to them, doctors are doing everything to save the lives of the victims, the governor added.
Following the deadly attack on Belgorod, Kiev forces said that Russia launched an attack with 33 Geran-1 and 2 suicide drones targeting multiple regions, and that Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 28 of the aerial vehicles.
One of the targeted regions was Odessa in southern Ukraine, where officials reported damage to port infrastructure and residential buildings. At least one person was wounded there. The nearby Mykolaiv region was also targeted.
Ukraine stepped up drone and missile attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks in an attempt to make up for the failure of its counteroffensive. The vast majority of the attacks were foiled by the Russian military. However, a few resulted in some casualties and material losses.
