Several Syrian service members were injured during an anti-terrorism raid in northern Daraa on July 27 when one of the suspects blew himself up with an explosive belt he was wearing.
“A terrorist blew himself up with an explosive belt during an army incursion into a terrorist hideout in Malihah al-Tish in the northern Daraa countryside, injuring a number of military personnel who were taken to al- Sanamayn Hospital for treatment,” the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said in a short press release.
The state-run agency didn’t provide any additional information on the unusual incident, which shades the light on the increasing terrorist activities in southern Syria.
Earlier this month, a unit of the Russian Military Police was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) in eastern Daraa. Later, a similar attack in the governorate’s western countryside claimed the lives of at least five Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers.
Local observers believe that terrorist groups, mainly ISIS and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), are responsible for these recent attacks in southern Syria. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
