Suicide Bomber Attacks Local Commander In Syria’s Daraa, Kills Four

Late on October 28, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the house of a former rebel commander in the southern Syrian city of Daraa.

The former commander, Ghassan Akram Abazid, survived the explosion with moderate wounds. However, four civilians who were visiting the commander at the time of the suicide attack were killed. The casualties were identified as Malik Sami Abazid, Malik Ali Labash Abazid, Yassin Falouji and Ahmed Fendi Abazid.

Ghassan was a senior commander of one of the Free Syrian Army’s largest formations in southern Syria, the al-Tawhid Brigade. In 2018, he joined the Russian-sponsored reconciliation agreement in Daraa. Since then, he has not taken part in any military activity.

The suicide attack was most likely orchestrated by ISIS in response to a recent security operation that targeted its cells in the town of Jasim in the western Daraa countryside.

The Syrian military, intelligence and several local armed groups, some of which are made up of former rebels, took part in the operation. Between October 14 and 20, at least 20 terrorists, including senior commanders of ISIS, were killed in Jasim.

The attempt on Ghassan’s life indicates that ISIS cells in southern Syria are still capable of staging bold attacks even in areas where strict security measures are in place, like Daraa city.

The suicide attack will not likely go without a response. The hunt for ISIS cells in southern Syria is far from being over. Syrian government forces and local fighters are already preparing to expand their operations against the terrorist group in Daraa.

Take USA/NATO out of all the areas known to be so called “conflict areas” and we will quickly see that on a local level, people can work out their differences and come to amicable agreements. BLAME POLITICIANS for all the crap happening in the world.
