Suicide Bomber Blew Himself Up In Turkey’s Hatay After Firefight With Security Forces (Videos)

A suicide bomber blew himself up after a firefight with security forces in the Iskenderun district of Turkey’s southern Hatay province. The incident took place on the town’s Fener Street, which was closed to traffic after the incident.

Hatay Governor Rahmi Dogan claimed there were no casualties due in the incident. According to him, the explosion erupted shortly after security forces neutralized one of the two suspected terrorists, whom they had pursued. Later, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu released a statement saying that both terrorists have been neutralized by security forces.

Turkish sources claim that the killed persons were allegedly members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). However, recently, the group has not conducted active operations (especially suicide bombings) against targets in towns and cities in Turkey. Instead, Turkey is currently full of active and former members of various radical groups: ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and other groups with the similar ideology. All of these groups have received or still receive indirect and even direct support from Turkey. In particular, the Turkish Army is openly protecting Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorists in Syria’s Idlib. Therefore, the deteriorating security situation in Turkey is largely result of Ankara’s own policies than some activity of ‘Turkish enemies’ as the Erdogan government tries to paint this.
