In the afternoon of March 1, a suicide attacker blew himself up inside a local restaurant known as Fusion in the center of the northern Syrian city of Idlib, according to the Syrian news outlet, Enab Baladi.
“The attacker opened fire at the civilians inside the restaurant then blowup an explosive belt he was wearing,” Enab Baladi’s reporter in Idlib said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 5 people were killed and 20 others were injured as a result of the attack. It is unclear yet if any of the casualties were militants.
The attack is the latest in a series of explosion that targeted Idlib. On February 18, a double-tapped explosion rocked the militants-held city. Back then, several Syrian, Russian and Turkish outlets said that the explosions targeted a convoy of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader, Abu Mohammad al-Julani.
Syrian activists said the attack in Fusion restaurant was likely carried out by ISIS cells in Idlib, who are engaged in a shadow war with HTS’ security forces.
