The Sukhoi Su-33 was developed from the Su-27 primarily for use on the Russian Admiral Kuznetsov heavy aircraft-carrying missile cruiser. The initial version was known as Su-27K, but later redesignated to Su-33.
On November 15, Sukhoi Su-33 fighter jets began conducting combat flights over Syria from the Admiral Kuznetsov deck.
