A series of unfortunate incidents is taking place in Iran in the first days of June.

On June 2nd, a massive fire broke out at the Tondguyan refinery which is located in the southern outskirts of the Iranian capital ,Tehran.

According to the Iranian media, ambulances and firefighters were quickly dispatched to the oil refinery, where all operations ceased.

The fire was reportedly caused by a leak at a liquid gas pipeline at the facility.

An investigation into the blaze was launched. Shaker Khafaii, head of the Tehran Oil Refining Company, which runs the state-owned refinery, ruled out the possibility of sabotage.

Earlier on the same day, the IRIS Kharg, the Iranian Navy’s largest ship, caught fire and subsequently sank in the Gulf of Oman.

The fire began during the night. Firefighters tried to contain it, the Fars news agency reported. Efforts to save the 207-meter Kharg failed. It was used to resupply other ships in the fleet at sea and conduct training exercises.

State media reported 400 sailors and trainee cadets on board fled the vessel, with 33 suffering injuries. Iranian officials offered no cause for the fire aboard the Kharg, though they said an investigation had begun.

Over the last few months, a series of fires have broken out in high-value facilities across Iran. In a number of cases, sabotage by the Israeli intelligence or other enemies of Iran, was suspected.

Fires and incidents involving various tankers and other types of vessels are also not uncommon, as Iran and Israel appear to be in tit-for-tat maritime sabotage.

In April, an Iranian ship called the MV Saviz, believed to be a Guard base, and anchored for years in the Red Sea off Yemen was targeted in an attack suspected to have been carried out by Israel. In 2020, during an Iranian military training exercise, a missile mistakenly struck a naval vessel near Jask, killing 19 sailors and wounding 15. Also in 2018, an Iranian navy destroyer sank in the Caspian Sea.

Separately, an accident took place on June 1st.  Two pilots of the Iranian Air Force were killed as a result of a technical problem on a F-5 fighter jet.

An investigation is underway as to what had caused the malfunction of the Iranian air force’s F-5 fighter jet. American-made F-5 fighters have been in service with the Iranian Air Force since the 70s.

It is unclear if any of these incidents involved foul play, but it would be no surprise when recent events are taken into account.

This is general incompetence and some Mossad. To think Mossad is able to/wants to kill pilots on training exercises only further serves Israeli purposes. PLO in 1970s and 80s used to claim responsibility for accidents in Israel to show their reach. Even if it turned out to be an accident, they were cheered by their base.
